Be it knownthat I, JOHN Lor'ros, a citizen of the United .States, residing at Albany, in the county ofAlbany and State of New York, have inventedcertain new and; useful Improvements in Heating Systems, of whi h the following is 'a'specification.
My invention relates to improvements in heating systems, the primary object of the to provide a generally improved combined h'otwater and steam heating' system, the various parts and features therein being so arranged and disposed as to efi'ect a positive and rapid circulation of the heat carrying and distributing Vehicle through the heating circuit in an auto,-

The improved'heating system comprises a suitable I suitable form-or type, and is provided with a circuit of pipes comprislng, in the present instance. a feed pipe 2, and a return pipe 3. To control :the flow of hot water and steam through the pipes and radiators, a bypass 4 is interposed between, and is adapted to provide communication with, the feed and return pipes 2 and. 3, said by-pass 4 being provided with a controlling valve 4". When the controlling valve'4 is open, and return pipes'2 and 3, together with the lowermost pipe 2*, andthe lowermost radiator 2", form a hot Water circuit. while the'feed and return pipes-2 and 3, and the radiators above the by-pass 4, will form a steam heating circuit, the system being filled with water to apoint above the by-pass 4, as will later be moreparticujlarly described.
To cause water and steam topas's alternately through the ,feed and return pipes from the upper portion of the heater or boiler, as in the normal operation of the system, later described the, boiler is provided with a connection 5, having therein the separate conduits 5 and 5?, whose outlet and inlet portions 5* and 5", respectively, terminate at different levels, said outlet 5 terminating at a higher level within the boiler than said inlet 5*, the outlet 5 communicating through conduit '5, with the manner in the by-pass 4, and connecting feed ill supply pipe 2, and the inlet 5 iug through conduit 5 with the return pipe 8.
To permit the fluid in the teed and return pipes to liow in but one direction, the feed pipe 2 is provided with a check valve'2 and the return pipe 3 is provided with a check valve 3 The pressures in said feed and return pipes may be indicated by the pressure gages 6 and 7.
Before the system is put into operation, the heater is iilled with water to a point above the lower end operation, it will be understood that the water is normally above the level of said outlet portion near the top of the boiler, and a certain steam space is provided above the Water. When a certain steam pressure is reached, hot water will be forced out through the outlet o and into the feed pipe 2, and, if desired, all or a portion of such hot water may be passed through the bypass i,
