APPLICATION FILEDJU'NE 5. 19H}.
Patented Nov. 19, 1918.
2 SHEETS-SHEET I.
enter/912v GUN-ADJUSTING MEANS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 19, 1918.
Application filed June 5, 1918. Serial No. 238,309.
10 all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, PETERLEPAK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Gun-Adjusting Means, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of simultaneous adjustin means for a plurality of whereby t e same may be lowered or e evated during the firing operation.
A further object of the device is the provision of a plurality of guns capable of adjustment for varying the angular distances between the muzzles of the guns comprising the device whereby the muzzles will hit a target in diiferent relations upon firing the l still further object of the invention is to provide a triple gun mount adapted for radially shifting the guns simultaneously when sighting the same upon the enemy, the mechanism being easily operable at the breech end of the device.
In the drawings;
Figure l is a side elevation of the device;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the same;
Fig. 4. is a rear end vice;
Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken upon line V-V of Fig. 4; and
Fig. 6 'is a vertical sectional view taken upon line VI-VI of Fig. 3.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, my device broadly consists of a mount 10 having an upright post 11 carried thereby to the head 12 of which three tapered guns 13 arehinged as at 14 for radial swinging movement, while an adjustable slider or spreader 15 changes the relative positions of the guns when being sighted for firing.
The head 12 upon the post 11 is circular in form with a rearwardly proi'ecting hub 16 carried thereby through whici the reduced portion 17 of a screw 18 is journaled. A wheel 19 is mounted upon the rear end of the screw 18 for convenience in turningJ the screw, being rearwardly of the breech lock 20 of the guns 13, while the forward reduced end portion 21 of the screw is journaled in a elevation. of the dees post 22 forwardly of the post 11.
The spreader 15 is substantially tri-foil 9r clover leaf in shape having circular openmgs 23 through each lobe 24 thereof for accommodating the 13 and by which arrangement the spreader 15 is slidably mounted upon the The spreader 15 is provided with a hub '25 through which it is mounted in threaded engagement upon the screw 18 and whereby the slider 15 may be shifted to correct positions between the posts 11 and 22 b turning the hand wheel 19. Anti-friction rollers 26 may be provided in the lower sides of the slider openings 23 be neath the s 13.
During t e sighting of the guns, the hand wheel 19 may be turned for revolving the screw 18 in the required direction to rearwardly move the shder 15 toward the post 11 and which operation by reason of the tapering of the guns 13 simultaneously elevates the guns 13 and also draws the centers of the muzzles 27 upwardly and inwardly toward each other. Upon reversing the direction of the screw 18, the slider 15 is moved outwardly toward the post 22 permitting the guns 13 to lower and the muzzles of the two lower guns to slightly separate. The upper portion 28 of the forward hub 16 is detachable for convenience in assembling the device and from the foregoing description it will be seen that the aim of the shots from the guns 13 upon the target may be such as to elevate and concentrate or lower and scatter the same.
What is claimed as new is:--
1. A. firing piece comprising a supporting post havin a circular head, tapered guns hinged to t e periphery of said head, a slider mounted upon said guns having openings through which the guns extend restin upon the slider, said 0st being positione adjacent the rear en s of the guns, 9. forwardly positioned post upwardl extending between the lower guns, a screw threaded through said slider and journaled in said posts, and a turn wheel upon the rear end of the screw rearwardly of the guns.
2. A firing piece comprising a base, an upright post mounted thereon, a head upon said post having a rearwardly extending hub, three tapered guns hinged adjacent their rear ends to the periphery of the said.
head adapted for radial swinging movement, a forwardly positioned post, a screw journaled in said forwardly positioned post and hub, turnin means for said screw rearwardly of t e' guns, and a slider supported upon and threaded to said screw with said guns supported thereby.
3. A firing piece comprising a base, an upright post mounted thereon, a head upon said post having a rearwardly extending hub, three tapered guns hinged adjacent their rear ends to the periphery of the said head adapted for radial swinging movement, a forwardly positioned post, a. screw jour- 10 naled in said forwardly positioned post andhub, turning means for said screw rearwardly of the guns, a three lobed slider threaded upon said screw with an opening through each lobe of the slider having a gun supportingly extending therethrough, and rollers carried by the slider at the bottoms of said openings beneath the guns.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PETER LEPAK.
