1n case the 9" key should happen to he struck in the units or cents column in a suhtracting operation, then the 9 pin Awould he unset and no other pin set up on the corresponding` rack har. 1n order, under such circumstances, to give the units or' cents bar an added step movement, a downwardly-extending,Y lug 300 is provided on the units or cents bar 78 in a position one step in advance of the 1 pin, whereby the extension or cut-out portion i 9 will come into engagement therewith during the forward movement of the general operator in subtracting and advance the units or cents rack har and the associated dial Wheel one step.
1n considering the means for driving the general operator it will first be shoovn how this can he controlled manually. At the front of the machine, there is provided a key 1053 (Figs. el and 40) mounted on a stem 10G having,` a vert-ical upand-dmvn play limited hy a pin-and-slot arrangement 107. By depressing the key 105s' against the tension of a spring 1083 a lever 109 is rocked about its pivot 110, so thatfit in turn rocks a lever 11].
