Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the main or inclosing casing of the machine,
preferably of the rectangular box form shown, and having a hinged side' wall or door 2 for convenient access to the contained mechanisms and parts of the machine.

The shaft 16 is journaled in the carriage 13, and in addition to the usual gearing connection 17 with an operat- `ing shaft capable of manual rotation, has power connection by pulley and endless belt 9 with an electric motor 20 arranged in the lower and rear portion of the caslng 1. In the structure shown, the electric motor 20 in addition to aifording driving power for the filln feeding mechanism as above set forth, also furnishes power for o erating the fihn take-up and film rewin ing mechanisins hereinafter referred to and the details of which constitute the subject matter of a separate application for Letters Patent, Serial No. 200,877, filed Nov. 8,, 1917.
21 designates the light shutter before referred to, preferably of the radial bladed type and carried by a shaft 22 journaled longitudinally on the carriage 13 aforesaid, so as to be adjusted longitudinally therewith, and is provided at its rear end with gearing connection 23 with the driving shaft 16 above described.
2 designates the interinittent film feeding sprock'et drum journaled in the carriage 13 aforesaid, in operative relation to the lower end of the film guide 9, and carrying the driven element of Van intermittent gearing device such as the ordinary Geneva movement 25 shown in Fig. 1, the driving element of said intermittent gearing being fixed to the Operating shaft 16 aforesaid.
26 designates the sprooket drum by which the Vusual free loop in the picture film is maintained at the upper and entrance end of the film guide or plate 9. The carrying shaft'of said drum 20 is also journaled in the car'riage 13 and receives constant rotation from the shaft 18 through gearing 27. In the i preferrcd construction shown, the sprocket drum 26 is arranged in a plane to one side of the plane in which the intermittent film feeding sprocket drum 21 is arranged and in line with the film delivery reel of the machine,while the aforesaid film feedin sprocket drum 24 is in line with the film ta e-up reel of the machine in the normal operation of the same as a picture projecting apparatus.
The take-up and delivery reels a'bove referred to are arranged in a' magazine or casing28 located in the forward and lower portion of the inclosing casing 1 of the ina- Vehme, and are preferably of the construction and'arrangement described in detail in separate applications for Letters Patent, Serial .Nos 200,877 and 200,878, filed Nov. 8, 1917.
29 esignates a pair of idler drums journaled in the upper and forward end of the main casing 1 in horizontal spaced relation to each other, and disposed in obliquerelation to the optical center of the machine, as
' shown in F ig. 1. As so arranged the drums 29 are adapted to maintain an oblique loop in the picture film, after the same has been 'unthreaded from the intermittent film feeding mechanism and apertured film guide heretofore described, and placed over said drums 29, in the operation of changing the mechanisms from an exhibiting condition to a film rewind condition.
A material feature of the present invention involves means for ventilating and coolmg the lamp house 3, and parts adjacent thereto, and consists as follows:

32 designates an apertured batlie plate arranged in spaced relation above the top Wall of the lamp`house 3 aforesaid, and below a grated opening 33 in the 'to `wall of the main casing 1, as shown in figs. 2 and '3. iVith the above described construction a free upward circulation of air can take place through the main casing 1 and lamp house 3, to carrdvv off the radiant heat from the illuminating means employed in the continued actual use of the machine. i
31 designates a rotary fan arranged in opcrative relation to the electric motor 20, and operatively connected with the power shaft of said motor by pulley and belt connection so that in the operation of said motor a forced upward current of air Will fbe produced by the fan 3-1 and in the` passage of said air through the lamp house, etc., an effective cooling of parts Will be attained.

37 designates grated openings in the side walls of the main casing 1, near the upper ends of the side spaces 36 aforesaid, for the escape of heated air from the interior of the main casing 1.
The above described arrangelnent of the side spaoes 36, and openings 37, in connection with' an opening 38 in the bottom Wall of the casing 1, is adapted to afford effective ventilating conditions and maintain themotor 20 and its associated electrical resistance element or rheostat 21 in a properly cooled and effective condition;
Having" thus fully described our said invention, what We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a portable motion picture machine, the c'ombination of a 'closed rectangular casing, a lamp house arranged in the u per rear portion of said casing and provided with upper and lower ventilating openings, a film feeding'v mechanism and associated optical system located in frontof the lamp house and in the upper forward portion of the casing,. a reel magazine located in the lower forward portion of said casing, and a motor located in the lower rear portion of said caslng, and having operative connections With the film fceding mechanism and with the film reeling mechanism of' the magazine aforcsaid, substantially as set forth.
9. In a portable motion picture machine,
the combination of a closed rcctangular casing, a lamp house arranged in the upper rear portion of said casing' and provided with upper and lower ventilating` openings,
1o a lilnr feeding mechanisin and associated optical system located in front of the lamp house and in the upper forward portion of the casing, a reel magazine located in the lower forward portion of the casing, a motor located in the lower rear portion of the casing and having opcrative connections with the film feeding mcchanism and with the film reeling mechanism of the magazine, and a fan or blower arranged beneath the lamp house and having operative connections with said motor, substantially as set forth.

In a portable motion picture machine, the combination of a closed rectangular casing, a lamp house arranged in the upper rear portion of said casing and having a less width than said casing to provide spaces between the respective side walls of said casing and lamp house, the side walls of the oasing having openings communicating with said side spaces, and a film feeding mechanism and associated optical system located in front of said lamp house, substantially as set forth.

In a portable motion picture machine, the combination of a closed rectangular casing, a lamp house arranged in the upper rear portion of said casing and having a less width than said casing to provide spaees between the respective side walls of said casing and lamp house, the side walls of the casing having openings communicating with said side spaces, a motor arranged in the lower rear portion of the casing, and a fan ,45 or blower arranged bcneath the lamp house and having' operative connections with Said motor, snbstantially as set forth.

In a portable motion picture machine, the combination of a closed rectangular casing, a lamp house arranged in the upper rear portion of said casing and having a less width than said casing to provide spaces between the respective side walls of said casing and lamp house, the side walls of the casing having openings communicating with said side spaces, and a film feeding mechanisni," the lamp house having upper and lower ventilating openings, substantially as set forth.

In a portablc motion picture machine, the combination of a closed rectangular casing, a lamp house arrangcd in the upper rear nortion of said casino; and having a less width than said casinp,r to provide spaces between the respective side walls of said easing and lamp house, the side walls of the casing having openings communicating with said side spaces, a motor arranged in the lower rear portion of the casing, and a fan or blower arranged beneath the lamp house and having operative connections with said motor, the lamp house having upper and lower ventilating openings, substantially as set forth. f'

In a portable motion picture machine, the combination of a closed rectangnlar casing, a lamp house arrang-ed in the upper rear portion of said casing' and having an open bottom, a laterally sliding plate fitting said bottom of the lamp house, and provided with a depending socket adapted to receive an incandescent lamp and, a film feeding mechanism and associated optical system located in front of the lamp house, substantially as set forth. f
