The invention further consists in so mounting the socket carrying rod on the tubular section that said rod may be tele scoped. into said tubular section when 'der sired.
The invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be 'fully understood by reference to the description of the draW- ings and to the claims hereinafter given.
For the purpose of illustrating the invention one preferred form thereoi2 is illustrated in the drawings, this'form having been found to give satisfactory and reiiable results, ai though it ,is to be understood that the various instrumentalities oi' which the invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and that the invention is not limited tothe precise arrangement and organlzation of these instrumentaiities as herein shown and described.

'The upper part of the ball 10 is provided with a hub 12 into which is threaded the standard or tubular section 13, having a clear straight passage therethrough and the upper end of which has threaded thereto a nut 141.

The member 19 is provided with a tubular hub 22 in. which is mounted the cylindrical extension rod 23. This rod or extension 23 may be adjusted endavise in the hub 22 and ciamped in adjusted position by means of the clamp 24 threaded to the boss 25 extending from the hub 22.

It is obvious that by the adjustment of the clamping bolt 36, the socket 35 may be easily removed from thcsocket clamps 33 and it is also self evident that b a slight turn oi the clamping bolt 36, the 'rictionof the'svfivels 3.1 upon the ball 30 and between these ivels and the inner faces of the soclretctamps 33, may be relieved suiicie'htly to permit the socket-clamps to be movedl into a new position and locked in said adjusted position by said clamping bolt 36.
The lampssupporting-extension rod 23 may be adjusted endwise or longitudinally in the hub 22 to move the socket 35 to any desired distance 4from said hub and then said extension `rod may be clamped in adjusted positionby means of clamp 24.. The biiurcated member may be moved into any desired angle relatively to the sleeve 15 and clamped in adjusted' position by the pivot bolt 18. This whole hinged device, 15, 16, 19 may be swung about the'axis of the tubular .justa y inname section 13 and locked in adjusted position by means of the clamping member 27.
A portion of the nut 14:10u the upper end of the tubular section 13 projects into the lateral slot 37'in the ring 16 thereby preventing the sleeve 15 from being displaced from its normabposition as indicated in the drawings. Y
This makes a very desirable lamp support particularly adapted for garage work, as by means of the structure shown the various parts may be quickly adjusted so that the light may be thrown up under machines, ci' may be throwndown upon any of the working parts of the mabhine. In fact the device may be adjusted so as -to throw light wherever it may be mostneeded `One great advantage of the device is, that whenever it is found unnecessary to project the light at some distance from the vertical standard or tubular section 13, the exten- .sion rod 23 may be telescoped into the said tubular section 13 as is indicated in Fig. 2, thereby causing it' tooccupy less space.
It is believed that the operation of the` device and its many advantages will be thoroughly understood without any further description.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a base; a tubular section connected at one end thereto; a hinged device having one part thereof secured to the opposite end of said tubular section; a lamp-supporting-extension adjustable endwise in the other part of said hinged device and one end of which is adapted to be positioned in said tubular section; and a lamp socket mounted on the other end of said adjustable extension.
2. In 'a' device of the class described, a
base; a tubulan; section connected to one end thereto and having a clear straight passage therethrough; a sleeve secured to the oppo' site end of said tubular section and provided with a lateral at-sided wing having a transverse o ening; a pivot/bolt in said opening; a mem er mounted on said pivot bolt and provided; with a tubular hub, said member being adapted to be moved about saidpivot to bring the axis of said hub in alinement ywith the axisof said tubular section; a lampsupporting-extension of less diameter than said passage through the tubular'section, ad-
ly mounted in said tubular hub and one end of which is adapted to be positioned in said tubular section; and a lamp socket mounted on the other end of said extension. 3. In a device of the class described, a base; a tubular section connected at one end thereto and having a clear straight passage therethrough; a sleeve secured to the opposite end of said tubular section and provided with a lateral Hat-sided win havj lng a transverse opening; a pivot bolt 1n said Laeae'ze opening; a member movable about saidpvot bolt and provided with va tubular-hub 1n the same vertical planeas said tubular section,
the axes of said tubular hub and said tubular section being equi-distant `from said pivot therethrough; a sieeve adjustable about the axis of the opposite end of lsaid tubular section; a clamping member therefor a tubular hub pivoted to said sleeve and adapted to be moved into alinement with said tubular section; an extension rod of less diameter lthan the passage in said-tubular section and l adjustable 'endwise in said tubular hub;
means for clamping said rod to Said hub; and a lamp socket mountedon the outer end of said rod.
