To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that L'DAVID B. BnDIN, 'a

citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brook-' lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have'invent'ed anew and Improved Railed Barrier, of which'the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description. 1 f

Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view 'arez-to prevent the accidental disl-odgment ofa barrier of thecharac'ter mentioned; to provide means for installing a barrier of the charactermentioned; to lap themarginal casings or to fit between the same; and to simplify the constructionandassembly of the parts forming the barrier.

As seen in the drawings, barriers "when constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, have a series rof rails 11. One end of each'of the rails is fixedly attached to an upright stile 12. The free ends of the rails 11 are provided with metal loops 13 and 1 1. The loops 14 are preferably attached to one of the rails 11 at the upper and lower edges of the barrier. As shown. best in Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings, each flange of the plates 19 is provided with an eyelet of the character mentioned. The plates 22 are slidably mounted on the ends of the stiles 12. Each plate is prO- vided with alongitudinal slot 23,-thr0ugh which the shank of a screw 24 extends. The

Theadvantage of this construction will be recognized when attention is drawn to the fact that these barriers are employed for preventing children leaning out of or falling from window open ings, or from doors or other entrance openings to stairways, shafts, or similar loca tions.

As shown in Fig. l of the drawings, the plates 22 may be constructed from angle metal, the flanges 26 whereof extend across the face of the stiles l2 f0r convenient manipulation by the person adjusting the barrier to the standing structure with which it is associated. It will also be observed that when the plate 22 is moved forward, it covers the recess or opening 20, and passes under the head of the screw 17, whether the same be arranged as shown in Fig; 8 or as shown'in Fig. 6. I

1. A barrier as characterized, and hanging members therefor embodying apluralityof vertically disposed angle plates, the perpendicular flanges whereof being provided with inverted eyelets; a pluralityof sliding plates adapted forengaging said angle plates intermediate the ends of said 'eye lets; and means for'locking said sliding Copies this patent ma y be obtained for plates in service position for preventing the retraction thereof from engagement with said angle plates.

2. A device as characterized comprising a plurality of telescopically connected members; a plurality of vertically disposed angle plates fixedly mounted on said members at the'opposite extremes thereof said angle plateshavingeach an eyelet for engaging a fixed hanger member; a movable locking plate mounted on the first mentioned mem bers for. engaging said hanger member when disposed as in service; and means for looking said platein the locked position thereof with said hanger member. V

3. A barrier as characterized having vertical side stiles; a plurality of suspension members for said barrier, said members embodying angle plates, each having inverted eyeletsin the opposite flanges thereof, said angle plates being disposed on the exposed corner of each of said stilesto engage suspension members placed in a standing structure in a plane parallel with the plane of nently mounted on said barrier at the 6X3 posed corners thereof, said angle plates hav ng inverted eyelets formed therein and supportmg members having screw-like heads adapted for extension through an enlarged portion of each of said eyeletsysaid heads being adapted to overhang the edges of the contracted portions ofisaid eyelets,

and a plurality of locking, angle plates slidably mounted on said barrier at the exposed corners thereof adjacent the first-mentioned angle plates, toslide in guided relation to said barrier in lines perpendicular to the flanges of the first-mentioned angle plates, anda plurality of screw members for clampingxsaid lockingplates in service relation and in engagement with said hanging plates and said supporting members.
