mgtheu spring-induced movement of said metal pump, a device wholly independent 'oil said cam normally occupying an inoperative position but capable of occupying an operative position. in which it will prevent the spring induced movement of said metal pump, a line rejecting lkey, and mechanisms rendered active thereby for turning said cam and for moving said independent restraining device into operative position in which it will prevent the spring induced movement of the metal pump when restraining ,iniuence of said cam is withdrawn by the rotation of said cam.
G. lin a typographie machine of the character specified, the combination of the metal pump, a spring for actuating it in the metal ejecting direction, a rotatable cam restraining the spring induced movement of said metal pump, a device wholly independent of said cam normally occupying an inoperative position but capable of occupying an operative position in which it will prevent the spring induced movement of said metal pump, a line rejecting key, and mechanisms rendered active thereby for turning said cam and for moving said independent restraining device into operative position in which it will prevent the spring induced movement of the metal pump when the restraining influence ci' said cam is withdrawn by the rotation of said cam, the vertically movable first elevator and means carried thereby for restoring said independent restraining device to its inactive position.
7. In a t pographic machine o the character specified, the combination of a casting control cam shaft, a cam thereon, a clutch device for .connecting said cam shaft with the driving mechanism therefor, a metal pump and its piston, a spring for moving said piston in the metal ejecting direction,
mechanism controlled by said cam for preventin such sprin induced movement, the vertica ly movable st elevator, mechanism for withdrawing a matrix line from said first elevator which mechanism is normally inactive, an automatic clutch having a sleeve containing two cam grooves, and adapted to render said line withdrawing means active, two pins adapted to respectively enter said two cam grooves and thereby to withdraw the clutch from action, a key, mechanism operable by said key for withdrawing one of said pins from action, a cam fixed to a rotatable part of said line withdrawing mechanism, 4.a leverengaginge said cani, a
train of mechanism opcrablcby said `lever to control: the lposition of thefcasting control cam shaft clutcluthe vertically movable `first elevator, an adjustable -tripidevice thereon,.a train of mechanism through 'which thelother pinis Withdrawn from the other cam groove vin said clutch sleeve, a partof said mechanism being located in the path of said trip device when lthe latter is proj'ectedfinto-'operativef'position.
8. The combination of a normally inactive casting control cam shaft, a vertically movable first elevator, normally inactive mechanism for withdrawing a matrix line from the elevator, a .cam which turns synchronouslywith the movement of said line withdrawing mechanism, means controlled by said cam for connecting and disconnecting the cam shaft from a source of power, a key,
means operable thereby for connecting the line withdrawing mechanism with a source of power, means acting automatically to stop said line withdrawing mechanism before 1t has completed its cycle, a tripping device for withdrawing said stopping means and again permitting the line withdrawing mechanism to operate, and a movable device carried by the first elevator and capable of occupying positions in which it will or will not engage said tripping device.
9. In a circulating matrix line casting typographie machine, the combination of a normally idle casting control cam shaft, a vertically movable first elevator adapted to support an assembled matrix line, a normally idle rotatable cam, means controlled by said cam to connect and disconnect said cam shaft and a source of power, a key, means controlled by said key for connecting the said cam with a source of ower, an automatically acting device for disconnectin said cam from said source of power be ore the cam has completed one complete revolution, a tripping device movably mounted on the first elevator and adapted to occupy an operative and inoperative position at will, a lever which extends into the path of said tripping device when the latter is in operative position, and mechanism operable by said lever for again causing'said cam to be connected with the source of power.
