Be it known that I, FRED C. VoLLMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to valves, and more particularly to a cut-off valve for dispensing cans.
The primary object of the-present invention is to provide a valve which may be associated with a receptacle or container in such a way as to conveniently dispense with the liquid contained't-herein.
A further object of the invention is to provide a valve which may be readily applied to any conventional container now in use.
A still further object is to provide a valve of the above mentioned type havingan air conducting tube carried thereby which will convey the atmospheric pressure to the interior of the container where it will exert a downward force on the liquid contained in the same.
The above and fully set forth in and claims, and
additional objects will be the following specification illustrated in the accoman in drawin s in which P a a F lgure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View through a conventional container having my improved valve applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the valve and a portion of the air conducting tube, and I Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. 1 looking toward the bottom of the container.
The invention consists of certain novel arrangements and combinations which will be set forth in detail.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which like characters of reference designatelike parts in all the views, the numeral 5 designates a conventional container or receptacle having a removable cover 6 mounted'thereon. The bottom of the receptacle is formed with a frusto-conical projection 7 which is provided with interior screwthreads. Engaged about this frusto-conical projection 7 is a frusto-conical sleeve 8-.
The numeral 10 designates the barrel of my improved valve which is provided with a longitudinal bore 11. Mounted in the barrel 10 and extendingtransversely across the Specification of Letters Patent.

bore 11 is a rotatable valve member 12 which is provided with an opening 13 which is adapted to register With the bore 11 to allow the fluid to pass therethrough. This valve is formed with a threaded stem 14 upon which is mounted a washer l5 and a nut 16 which bears against the washer and allows the valve to be rotated. Formed on the valve 12 is a handle 17 which is for the purpose of rotating the same. ner end of the barrel 11 is an outwardly extending annular flange 18 which is relatively thick. This end is also provided with a threaded extension 19 which is threaded into the frusto-conical 20 is interposed between the opposed faces of the projection 7 and flange 18.
This flange 18 and the extension 19 are formed with a substantially L-shaped air duct 21 which receives one end of an air conducting tube or pipe 22 that extends within the receptacle 5 and above the level of the liquid contained therein as illustrated in ig. l.' I
Preferably the receptacle 5 is positioned on the support in such a way as to allow my improved valve to extend beyond the same whereby a small receptacle may be conveniently placed near the valve to fill the same.
While the embodiment of the invention 1n said opening and provided with a longi-- tudinally extending air port, said air port having one end opening into the upper end of the barrel and enlarged to form a socket, and its opposite end opening into the side face of the barrel, a vertical air tube alined with said air port and having its lower end received in said socket, and a valve mounted in said barrel.
2. The combination with a container having an opening in the bottom thereof, of a hollow barrel having its upper end secured in said opening, an enlargement encircling said barrel, said barrel being provided with a longitudinally Formed adjacent the inprojection 7 The washer extending air port having one of its ends opening into the periphery of said enlargement and its opposite end.opening into the upper end of the barrel and enlarged to provide a'sock'et, a vertical air tube 5 alined Wlth said air port and havinge'its lower end received in said. socket, and a valve carried by said-barrel.
