UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
NORMAN e. NICOLL, or NEW YORK, N. Y. p v
MASSAGE-VIBRATOR.
Application filed September 14, 1917. Serial No. 191,886.
Improvement in Massage-Vibrators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to massage vibrators, the object being to provide a-devic'e of the above mentioned class, having means carried by its motor shaft, for imparting to an applicator, an undulating oscillatory movement to approximately simulate the movements employed by hand operators in massaging the body.
A further object of mypresent invention being to provide a massage vibrator having a motor provided with a shaft, carrying an applicator pivotally mounted in eccentric relation therewith, said applicator having a pliant working face provided with a multiplicity of cupped depressions, and being further provided with means for setting up vice is in operative contact with the body surface. e
To these ends, andto such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists,
further, in a novel construction, combination, and adaptation of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, in which drawing, similar reference characters are. employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views in which Figure 1. is a sectional elevation ofmy vided in the form of construction shown, at
its opposite ends, with disks or eccentrics 13,
Specification-of Letters Patent. I
Patented Sept. 17, 1918.
shaft 12, at the opposite ends as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
Carried, in pivotal relation in the wrist pins, is an applicator 15, constituted by a 'main' portion 16, and right angled arms or extensions 17-, said main portion is formed with a multiplicity of perforations 18, and
carries a pliant sheet 19, of rubber or other suitable material, having cup shaped .de-
pres'sions 20, registering with said perforations as shown. I
The, frame or casing 10, has two or more orifices 21, each arranged centrally of a bellows 22, disposed between, and secured to Y central portion of the applicator if desired.
The frame or casing carries an operating handle 24,and it is thought that the opera tion and utility of the device will be apparent without further description, and while in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural ele 'ments thereof are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1.: In a massage device, a motor having a shaft, and anapplicator pivotally connected at the opposite ends thereof as described.
- 2. In a massage device, a' motor having a shaft, and an applicator pivotally carried in eccentric relation by the opposite ends there of as shownanddescribed.
3. In a massage device, a motor having a shaft, an applicator operated by said shaft.
said applicator having a pliant working face provided, with cup shape depressions, and means for imparting an undulating oscillatory movement to said applicator- 4. In a massage device, a motor having a shaft, an a plilcator operated thereby, means carried by said shaft for imparting an undulating oscillatory movement to said applicator, means for limiting the lateral movement of the central portion thereof,
and means for creating a sacking action on the body surface acted upon, as described.
5. A massage device comprising a casing, a motor provided with a shaft projecting at either end through said casing, beveled disks made fast to said shaft, and an applicator pivoted to said disks in eccentric relation therewith for the purpose specified.
(3. In a massage vibrator, a casing, a motor having a shaft bearing in said casing with its opposite ends extended therethrough, beveled disks carried on said ends. an applicator eccentricall v mounted on said disks, and means for creating an air suction on the body surface operated upon, as described.
7. A massage vibrator comprising a casing. a motor driven shaft mounted therein, disks carried by said shaft outside the casing, an applicator pivotally carried by the disks at opposite sides of the shaft at the opposite ends thereof, and means mounted between the applicator and the casing for creating an air suction on the body surface in the operation of the vibrator, as described.
8. A massage vibrator comprising a casing, a motor having its shaft bearing in said casing and extended beyond the same at the opposite ends, disks fixed to the extended shaft ends beyond the casing, an applicator 10. In a massage vibrator, a casing provided with end bearings and side air passages, a motor mounted in said casing with its shaft extended outwardly therethrough, disks carried by the shaft ends, an applicator eccentrically pivoted to said disks, said applicator being provided with a pliant surface having citpped depressions provided with apertures, bellows mounted between said casing and applicator and communicating with the said air passages and apertures to create an air suction on the body surface during the massaging ope 'ation, as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 25th day of August, 1917.
