METHOD FOR TREATING- :WHERE-WHEELS.

Be it known that I, MATHEW C. RAUSCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods for Treating Emery-Wheels, of which the. following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relatesto certain improvementsl in methods for treating emery stone, and it is an object of the invention to` provide a novel and improved method whereby',

It is also an object of the invention to provide a ynovel and improved method of.'
treating emery stone or more particularly emery whereby a grinding wheel` may be produced which is provided with an internal' grinding surface.

The emery' stone--is submerged in this solution for si-xty hours and then a second solution is added to 'thelirst -named solution and said second solution comprises two parts of lye to three parts of water. After the second solution hasbeen added the temperature isA-brought to 'a heat of 60 F. and the emery stone is immersed in this combined solution and at this temperature for one hour.- The combined solution is thenl permitted to cool until the temperature thereof is reduced to 20 F. Thev emery stone is operated upon while still in' the solution because the particles which are loosened by the solution do not reset. The loosened particles are freed froml the article produced by rotating the same at a minimum rotation of substantially ten thousand revothe emery wheel and boring or drilling therethrough an opening 1. The opening 1 results in an annular internal grinding surface 2 which may be effectively employed for grinding purposes and in a manner which is well known to those skilled in the use of emery wheels.
A further advantage possessed by my improved method is the facility and convenience with which used emery wheels of the ordinary type may be treated in order to produce an internal grinding surface 2 whereby the life of such emery wheel may be materially prolonged and whereby a material saving of the emeryis effected.
The. method hercinbefore set forth particularly relates to emery of number seven grade which is the hardest grade of emery. In treating the lower or softer grades of `emery wheels the solutions are weakened and lthe degrees of heat lowered and also the V:stone f in{o1"der to vpermit the'zjsame. to be drilled or bored vI first place'theeinely'istonein asolution of one part of soda ash toive length ottime of immersion is shortened.
