to electric liquid heaters and particularly to electric water heaters which are usually used in the water works of households and like places.
One object of the invention is to provide a heater employing a heating element of simple and cheap construction and preferably one which may be purchased on the open market and incorporated into the heating apparatus without the addition of special parts and materials.
A further object of the invention is to provide a heater employing an electric con ductor as a heating element and toprovide such a conductor as may be used without a protective covering or t e like, whereby the liquid will come into direct contact with the conductor, and when a series of such c'onductors are employed enable the water to v transmit current from one to the other.
Further objects will be apparent upon reference to the accom anying drawings and the following detail description.

Referring to the drawings in detail 1 represents a chamber or reservoir, which is adapted to be incorporated in the service pipe of a household water supply by an inlet 2 and outlet 3. Mounted within the chamber 1 are a pair of insulating brackets 4, and 5, spaced apart by the central tube .6. Mounted around this central tube 6 are a plurality of heating elements 7 consisting of irregular shaped sheets of metal having a substantially high resistance an example of which is chrome steel. These heating elements are supported in spaced relation within the chamber by means of the brackets 4 which are in turn perforated as at 8 to permit the flow of water through the chamber. Each heating element is essentially a conductor, andthe means for energizing them comprises the post 9 which may be connected to any suitable source of electricity. The water connected at their tops and bottom by the bridge pieces 10. Each heating element or conductor is so disposed within the chamber that the water will contact with its entire surface and in this connection the peculiar shape of the conductors enables a large area of its surface to be subjected to contact with the water and thereby obtain a maximum of heating efiiciency. The degree to which the water is heated will be governed by the amount of water that is drawn off. For instance if the faucet is only turned half way on, the water will not be drawn from the heater as quickly as if the faucet was on full consequently it will be heated to a higher degree.

I claim An electric liquid heater, comprising a chamber having inlet and outlet openings, a pair of insulating blocks in said chamber providing an intermediate reservoir, openings in said blocks communicating with the top and bottom of the chamber, a series of heating elements spaced apart in said intermediate reservoir y said insulating blocks, said elements comprising a plurality of metal sheets having a resistance sufiicient to produce heat when'energized, each of said metal sheets having an irregular form, portions of which providing deflector blades adapted to impart a whirling motion to the liquid passing through the chamber, said metal sheets being also supported whereby the liquid passing through the chamber may MANUEL S.
