GEORGE A. KEENE, OF NEVBURYPORT, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOSQUITO-SCREENS FOR WINDOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,609, dated June 4, 187'2.
Specification of an Improved Mosquito-Bar, invented by GEORGE AUGUSTUS KEENE, of Newburyport, Essex county, Massachusetts.
This invention consists in the arrangement of a strip of wood or metal a little shorter than the opening to be closed, carrying a spring, at one end, and scarfed longitudinally, with a net wider than the length of the strip of wood or metal, pressing the net into the scarf, and collars or clasps to clamp the Whole together.
In the drawing, A is the stretcher. It has a groove cut into one side, as shown at B. Into this a fold of the net is pressed by strip c, which is brought to its place and held there by wire or sheet-metal clamps'd d. The crosssection of the stretcher may be of any suitable form, and the shape of the clasps d d will be modified to correspond. The net should be cnt about two inches wider than the openin g to be filled, and about an inch should be left on each side of the stretcher. One stretcher is placed at each end of the net, and a hole is bored in one end of the same, into which a block of rubber is inserted, e, or any other spring. The stretchers, When putin place inside a Window-Casin g, will stay as put on account 'of the pressure of the rubber or spring against the side of the casing. The Width of the net, being greater than that of the casin g, will ll the sides of the window, so that nsects will not pass.
With painted net the margin need not be so wide as with soft net; and in lieu of the margin may be substituted an ornamental bordering or binding.
I claim as my invention- The arrangement of stretchers A, block or spring e, strips C, and clasps d with a net wider than the length of the stretcher, substantially as described.
GEO. A. KEENE.
