STICKER-ROD ELEVATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.

' Be it known that I, FRANK I-I. Nonnis, a citizen of the United States, residing at Robinson, in the county of Crawford and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sucker-Rod Elevators and body from which extend supporting arms` within which is swiveled a supporting wrench plate. A center finger is secured to the body and extends into position to lock the sucker rod in the wrench plate when the body is in an upright position. Heretofore the elevator body has been formed by shaping the arms on extensions which are united by welding. The centering finger has been secured to the body thus formed by a short weld, this weld requiring a second heat. rlhe elevator body so made is oftendefective especially with relation to the weld of the center finger and also requires additional time incident to the second heat in making the weld. The object of my inventionlis to improve the elevator as to the manner of se curing the centering finger and also improve the method of manufacture. i
The invention is illustrated in theaocompanying drawings as follows Figure 1 shows the assembled elevator.

1 marks the supporting wrench plate and 2 the wrench socket therein. This socket is, as is well understood, designed to engage the end of a' sucker rod joint so as to facilitate in the connecting and disconnecting of such joint and also to be used in supporting the rods as they are elevated or placed in the well. The supporting plate has. the trunnions 3 which are swiveled in the arms 4. The arms 4- extend from a body 5. A center finger 6 also extends from the body 5 into position to close the socket 2 when the body is brought to an upright position, the purpose being to lock the joint in place in the usual manner.
The body 5 has the swivel pin 7 formed on its upper end which extends through an opening 8 in the ring 9. A shoulder l0 is arranged on the body below the pin 7 and the pin is headed over at 11 so as to lock the ring in place on the pin.
In forming the elevator the arms 4 are formed with the extensions 12 and 13 as shown in Figs. 2and 4 and the finger 6 is formed with an extension 14 as shown in Fig. 3. These extensions are preferably of equal length and are heated to a welding heat, brought together and welded, the head l0 and pin 7 being formed with the same welding heat, in fact, the fashioning of the swivel end of the body assists in forming the weld. Further it will be observed that a portion of each extension is carried through into the head 1l. This assists in holding the parts as well as the weld. By this construction the danger of a separation of the finger from the shank, or body, formed by the extensions is entirely removed and at the same time the body can be more quickly manufactored.
`Vihat I claim as new is In a sucker rod elevator, the combination of a swiveled supporting wrench plate; a body'having arms in which said plate is swiveled; a retaining finger; a shank formed by unitedintegral extensions of said arms `and finger; and a supporting ring swiveled on the shank, the extensions from the arms and Enger extending into and forming an engaging part of the swivel.
