A wedge-shaped in forni and constitutes a projecting nose upon and to which the detachable point 12 of the tooth is secured, the said detachable point being bifurcatedl whereby upper and lower diverging arms 13-14 are provided; which arms overlie and extend along the inclined faces of the wedgeslia-ped nose, as shown, the lower of said arms 14 'preferably extending rearwardly beneath the recess l9 far enough to be engaged by bolt-s, rivets or other fastening, means extending through two of the holes 10, as best shown in Fig. 2, whereby additionalI security is provided. for holding the point in place upon the free outer end of the base.

the said recesses 'bei formed one in the upper and one in the ower of the inclined -faces of the wedge-sha ed nose and ex tending longitudinallyr o the same, as best shown in Fig. 2.` The side walls of these Vrecesses are in the form of a segment of a circle or disk or, as otherwise ex ressed, are arcuate in form; this form o being adopted and used in order that the said -side walls may be finished and ground smooth by the side of a' circular grinding wheel introduced into the recesses, and tipped to an angle corresponding with the angle of the sides thereof and of the lugs 15 which are to fit therein. lIt therefore follows that a tightly fitting joint is se'-V cured betweenthe side walls of the recesses and the side walls of the lugs 15 which contact therewith when the detachable point is in place, thereby reducing 10st motion due cto looseness of the lugs within the recesses to a minimum and securing contact throughout the entire area of the side Walls of the lugs and recesses. It will also be appreci'v ated that the interlocking connection rovided by the dove-tailed lugs ttin into the dove-tailed recesses prevents the iver ing arms 13-14 of thepoint from s reading when the tooth is in use, as eac arm is interlocked with the inclined face of the nose upon which it rests Furthermore,

The interlocking connection provided between eacli of the diverging arms 14, 15 'and' the inclined faces of the free end of the supporting base, provides a tooth in which no web extending from one arm of the point to the other is necessary, such Vas is used in many types of teeth for the purpose of preventing the diverging arms from spread\ ing, as the dove-tail form of the lugs and recesses holds the arnis in firm and permanent Contact with the inclinedifaces and prevents the spreading of the arms. My invention, however, is equally applicable to Y supporting Shanks or bases designed to accommodate'a detachable point having a web connecting the diverging arms with one an-V other, and such an adaptation of my invention is illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7. In Fig.
6, the forward end or nose of the supporting .shank 17 is provided with a slot 18 extending from the free outer end of the nose, into the recesses 24 provided in theinclined surfaces thereof, and the-detachable point .19 is provided with a web 20 extending between ithe diverging arms 21, 22 thereof, which web lies within the slot when the point is in place, as shown. Havingthus described and explained my invention, what I claim as new and desire ,to secure by Letters Patent is:-

and the same beingeubstantially arcuate in form so that a circular grinding Wheel may be introduced thereinto to grind the side walls of Said recesses.
2. In a di per tooth, a Supporting base having a wer ge-shaped nose provided with oppositely disposed faces inclined with reference to one another, and two recesses havin inclined side walls whereby a dovetaed crosssection is secured; said recesses being formed one in cach of said inclined faces and extending longitudinally thereof, and the same being vsnibstantially arcuate in form so that a circular grinding wheel'may 4 be introduced thercinto to grlnd the side 15 walls of said recesses, said nose'having also a slot extending from its free end into said reccsscs.`
