WATER-HEATER.
Tov all tvlwm t may concern.' n
Be 1t known that I, FRANCIS L. Anso- BRooK, a citizen ofthe United States, resid-v ing at Alamo, in the county of Crockettand State of Tennessee, have invented or disand useful Improvecovered certain new l ments in Water-Heaters, of which the followin is a specification, reference being had t 'erein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a waterV heater suitable for army or other vcamp use, and
has for its object to provide a convenient device of this sort which comprises certain Y which may be taken down removable parts for convenient transportation. vTo this end the device comprises a stove which may be of conical or upwardly tapering form and which will preferably be of sheet metal and adapted to burn wood; although the invention may be applied to a stove adapted to consume any kind of fuel, either solid, liquid or gaseous. The water heater proper consists of an annular vessel adapted to be supported on the upper part of the stove, which latter may smoke pipe. 'The water heating vessel is furnished with a suitable cover which may be lifted when access to the chamber of the vessel is desired, and such cover is preferablyV provided with a spring-acted retaining device which will hold the cover in place to close the said water heating vessel, orwhich device will retain the cover in lifted position on the smoke pipe when access to the water heating vessel is desired. y
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a preferred embodiment of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly in horizontal section, on the line 2 2, Fig. 1, of the same.
Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes a stove, which may be of sheet metal or other suitable material. This stove is preferably provided with an upper door 13 to permit combustible material to be supplied to the stove, and a lower door 14 which maybe opened for the removal of ashes, or for permitting a suitable draft. The doors 13 and 14 may, if desired, be provided with draft Specic'ation of Letters Patent.
be provided with a removablel posed between the upper part of the inner wall ofthe vessel 16 and 4the stove for the purpose ofsteadying thesaid vessel ony the stove without requiringit to be wedged too tightly against said stove... The. sleeve or thimble 17 is vertical section, being.l thickest at its top. The smoke pipe 18 is preferably fitted to the upper partof thestove 12, said smoke-pipe preferably resting on said sleeve or thimble.
l Patented Aug.'13, 1918.A Applicationfiied'Aprile,1918. tseriainoaaaus.' Y A preferably wedge-shaped, in
`The cover'19 of the vessel 16 is preferably provided with a spring-pressed holding device by which said cover may beretained in place to close said vessel, or by which said cover may be held in an elevated position on the smoke pipe 18 when access to the said vessel is desired. To thisend the cover is provided with upwardly projecting lugs 20 in which is mounted a sliding bolt 21 having a fixed collar 22al carrying a knob 22 and betweenwhich collar and one of said projections is located a spiral spring 23 serving to press said bolt inward. The bolt 21 carries at its inner end a curved member 24 adapted to fit against the smoke pipe 18 Vand thus frictionally retain the cover in position to close the vessel 16, when desired;
or this spring-acted retaining device may be utilized to hold the cover in lifted position on the smoke pipe, as denoted by dottedv lines in Fig. 1, when access to 'the vessel is desired.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the invention provides a simple water heating device consisting of certain removable parts whichmay be readily assembled, and which can be quickly taken apartfor convenient transportation. It will be understood thatthe stove 12 may or may not be provided with supporting legs 25. If it be open at its bottom, and thus adapted to rest directly on the ground, no legs will be required. n l
The water heating vessel 16 will preferably be provided with a faucet 26. Having vthus describedV my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. VThe combination with a suitable stove, of an annular water heating vessel supported thereon, a smoke pipe fitted to the upper retainxsaid cover in position, to close said Y vessel, or to .hold said cover ,in an elevated movable cover provided with a springpressed retaining device acting against said' smoke pipe and thus serving to rictionally retain lsaid coverv in position to close .said vessel, or to hold said cover in an elevated position on said smoke pipe when access yto said vessel is desired, said retaining device comprising a spring-:pressed sliding bolt having at its inner end a curved member adapted to fit against said smoke pipe.
3. The combination with an upwardly tapering stove, of an annular Water heating vessel supported on the ,tapered upper part thereof, a smoke pipe fitted to the upper part part of said stove,
of said stove, and a tapering sleeve or thimlole Ainterposed .between the said vessel and saidY stove.
Y Li. The combination with an upwardly tapering stove, of an annular water heating vessel supported on the tapered -upper part thereof, a smoke pipe litted to the upper said vessel having a removable cover provided with a springpressed retainingdevice acting against said smoke pipe and thus serving to frictionally retain said cover in position,to close said vessel, orto hold said cover in an elevated position con said smoke pipe when access to said vessel is desired.
Irntestimony whereof I alx my signature.
