Be it known that I, GEORGE B. BLILEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved toy adapted for keeping a series of small balls such as marbles in motion and embodying a motor driven elevator, a spirally arranged runway to whichthe marbles supplied by the elevator, a drop column to which the marbles roll on the said run-way and a return run-way which conveys the marbles by gravity from the bottom of the drop column to the elevator so that the elevator is'successively supplied with marbles to be carried thereby to the spiral run-way, the object of the invention being to provide an improved toy of this character which is simple in construction and which operates eiliciently.
The invention consists in theV construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar View at right-angles to Fig. 1 and omitting the motor, the motor shaft being shown in section.
Fig. 3 is a plan of the same.
Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
In the embodiment of my invention here shown a base 1 is provided from which rises a hollow column 2 at the upper end of which column is a circular disk or table 3 which is provided with a spiral run-way 4, the intake end of the run-way being at one side of the disk or table as atl 5 and the opposite end of the run-way being at the center of the plate or table as at 6 and corresponding with the upper end of the hollow column 2. A member 7 is arranged on the base and is provided'on its upper side with a gravity acting run-way 8 the upper end of which communicates through an opening 9 with the bottom of the bore in the drop column 2 so that av marble or Aother like device which are successively drops through the column from the inner end of the run-way 4 is caused to pass through the opening 9 and enter the runway 8, said run-way 8V carrying the ball to the outer end of the member 7 by gravity and causing the ball to be fed to a pocket 1() of an endless elevator 11. Said endless elevator is here shown as a belt and the pockets l0 thereof are suitably spaced and each, on the upwardly moving side or lead of the elevator being open at the upper side.
upper roller l2 is mounted on a suitable stub shaft 13 which is carried by a post 14, said post extending from the base to the plate or table 3. A lower roller 15, which engages the lower bight of the endless elevator is arranged on a shaft 16 of a spring motor 17, the winding key of which is shown at 18. A suitable number of marbles or other spherical objects is provided, said marbles being indicated at 19. The operation of the toy is as follows: When the spring motor has been wound and started the elevator is set in motion and one lead thereof is caused to move upwardly as indicated by the arrow. A suitable number of the marbles are used and they are rst, one at a time, dropped through the column 6 and caused to pass successively over the run-way 8 and to be successively supplied by their own gravity to the pockets of the elevator. As each pocket of the elevator passes over the upper roller 12 the marble drops therefrom into' the intake end of the spiral run-way 4. The marbles roll on said runway and drop throughv the opening 6 and hence are kept constantly in motion as long as the motor operates.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts, without departing from the spirit of my invention and within vthe scope of the appended claims. f
