In the operation of the machine, as .the lever y4 moves upwardly, the blade-carrying arm 7 is intended to move about its pivot 6 so that the blade will ride upwardly along the guide 2 and engage the head of a nail so that, upon the return movement, the nails will be fed t0 the work, the continued movement of the Specification of Letters Patent.

In the actual use of string nailing machines of the type noted', the blade would give way under the strain imposed thereon in cutting through the nails and would slide `en'dwise outwardly between the clamping plates' 8. To overcome this objection and to permit the blade to be adjusted so as to compensate for wear and properlyy cut through the nails, I provide an adjusting screw 13 which is mounted in the lower end of a bracket 14 and 'is held in a set position by ay lock nut* 15. The bracket 14 lconsists .of a substantially U-shaped' body or base portion 16, the members of which are adapt- 'ed to iit on Vopposite sides of the blade carryingarm 7, and a neck 17 extending downwardly from the said. base or body, an interf nallvthreaded eye or loop 18 being provided at' the extremity of said neck. The adjusting screw yor bolt 13 is inserted through and engaged in: the internally threaded 'eye 18 and 'is equipped at its outer endwith a hanmay` be vreadily rotated andthereby vcaused to move through the eye.
