APPLICATION FILED JULY I3, I9I6, 1,274,618.
`|NvENToR WITNESSES ATTORNEY 1N: Numus ne; es cu.. :moro-uma.. wAsnlrvsmN, n z;
To all whom t may concern: i'
` f; cLAYToN" n, sfMrrirjor nncniri'rn, ILLINOIS.
LBe it known that I, CLAYTONV VYSLIIITH,
citizenof the United States, residing at De# y catur, in the county v`of Macon and-'State fof Illinois, have invented certainnewandlusea combinedconcrete form and stake. c
`As-the primary obj ect, this` invention Vcon-vk templates theprovision of novel connecting meansibetween the form -and* the stakewhich Willpermitthe stake to bedriven into the ground to brace the forml while attached to theform, and whlch will further permit the form tobe moved after the concrete has bec come dry to effect a disengagement of the connecting means leaving 'the stake in the ground, which can be finally removedk in the., lusual manner. H eretofore,11thas been necjessary to drive the'stakes yinto theground and permanent-lyconnect them to the form such as with nails which `naturally is a very expensive proposition as there is a-greatloss in so far as both the formsijandftheg'stakes are concerned. i
A further object of the invention resides inthe provisionofa Vdevice ofthe character.V
i .thefstake on the bolt which guldes the movedescribed that is simple in constructiom'eficient in operation and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost. Y
Other objects and features aswell as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanyin drawings and pointed out in the claims orming a part of this specification. l
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention. y
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1. p
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the plate.
Referring more particularly to thedraw-v ings in which similar reference numerals designate like andA corresponding parts throughout the various views, the board or A plate 1 which constitutes a part of a concrete form, is associated with the stake 2 having a longitudinal slot 3 therein, and
terminating at a point 4 to facilitate entrance to the ground.
In order to removably connect the*` stake 6011113111111) conrcnnrrnliront(A sTAKE. 1

' l tothe. form7 aV plate 5 having a longitudinal i slot 6 is provided one fend of Awhich slot ter-.-
minatesin an opening 7. The .plate 5 is p05 form-board so that the slot will, preferably,
sitioned and secured "by, members 9 to the extend-substantially horizontally. The rear face of the plate has a recess 8 about the side diameter ofthe opening`7v so that the.` head 10 ofa bolt-11 can `be passed through the openino- 7 and engaged in the recess 8k, the sides: of the slotservin to guide movement ofthe vbolt 10. theret rough.A The outer threaded extremity 12 of the bolt is adapted t to pass through the slot?,v in theJ stake, which latter-is held inV `close relation with the plate through the -medium of a winged nut 13.
The, operationy of this invention is asfollows; 1 c
After the board Vis arranged in its desiredl position, the-plate 5 is connected to -theouter of theslot whichV is similar to the width, and
face thereof and the bolt is arrangedinf.
the slot 6 and extends through the slot, linf y' thestakeQ, and'the'winged nut'13 is then associatedk withk the 1free `kend of ltherboltbut n j isnot threadedto bind theI stakein close re? lationwith the form.r board. YVNow, the stake is driven downwardly into the ground as shown. in Fig. 1,A :the nut serving `ito yretain ment of the former. Of course, it will be appreciated that after the stake is driven in positionk the nut is tightened to bind the stakeand form-board together, the stake serving as an anchor and naturally braces 'the board 1. VVhen'the concrete has become the stake can be removed from the ground and subsequently used in a similar capacity. It will be understood fromthe drawings that the present invention presents a unique and compact means for connecting a formboard and anchoring stake without requiring or without necessitating any openings to be made in the side of the form-board or without having any projectings extending from the inner face of the form-board, andl which projections would leave impressions.. in the surface of the ,concrete which. 1s.
can! easily be seen that I have provided-av device that is simple in construction, containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured4 and assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at 'a minimum cost'.
It will bef-understood that the above description and accompanying drawings'com prehendonly the generalY embodiment'of my invention andthat various-minor changes 1n detail of construction,` proportion and`farrangement of' the: parts-may be made within the scope ofthe appended'v claims andfivitli'- out sacrificing any of the-advantages of my invention.
Havingthus fullydescribed my invention, what I" claim as new and? desire toL secure by Letters Y Patent, lis
l. A combined concretev -form and: stake including a form board, a slotted: stake, a-
movably secured on theboard,v a -slott'ed stake, a bolt removably engagedY in-'the plate and. alsovin the slot in the stake, and a nut removably associated With the bolt for maintaining the stake on the bolt While it is beingdriven-intojthe ground and for binding the form and stake together.
3 Inra: combined concrete form and stake, the combination with a forni board, of a plate secured?tlieretohaving a slot terminating at one end in a recess, a bolt adapted to be slidably engaged' in the plate and removablyV therefrom` through the recess, a stake having af-longitudinal` slot4 adapted for slid able engagement with the bolt', anda removable nut for the bolt.
4. connection for a formeboard and' stake, Whichcomprises a forim boa-rd; a slotted stake, a plate provided With slot havinga recess atloneend; said plate being adapted tf'obe secured to one surface of a form-board with its slot' extending' substantially horizontally, aremovable bolt adapted to be slidably engaged-insaidislot, said'boltt having the head thereof' removable 4through therecess'at theA endof the slot* to' permit* the plate to be detached fromy thebolt-,said bolt being further adapted to` engage With the stake by passinglthroughtheslot thereof, and meanson the bolt for-'binding` the stake tothe form-boardzA In` testimony whereof, 'IE aflix my signature in presence -ofi tivo Witnesses.
