To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known t at I, Vmonn'r TUMMI- NELLO, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Cefalu, in the Province of Palermo, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cod-Buttons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improve ments in end buttons, and has for its object to provide an article of this character which is formed from a single length of metal.
A. further object of the invention is to provide an article of this type formed from a single length of metal, bent so as to provide distinctive and ornamental heads or buttons.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a link button having heads integrally formed with the link or shank.
With these and other objects in view,this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and ar rangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the button.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a slightly modilied form of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of another modified form of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of still another modified form.
Fig. 5 is still another modified form of the invention.
Fig. 6 is a vertical longitudinal central sectional view through a modification similar to that shown in Fig. 5, except that the portions of the shank which pass through the convolutions touch the inner faces of the convolutions.
Referring particularly to Fig. 1, 1 designates the shank of the button, which terminates at its ends in coils 2 and 3, which constitute heads or buttons, the coils 2 being slightly larger thanthe coils 3. By making the coils 3 smaller than the coils 2 will permit the same to more readily pass through the button-holes of the end.
The convolutions of the coils are pressed tightly together in any suitable manner so as to provide rigid buttons or heads. The terminal l of the coil 2 is bent inwardly and transversely and in contact with the adjacent parts of the convolutions and has its end in a plane with the outer sides of the innermost coil, while the terminal 5 of the coil 3 is bent outwardly and transversely, and also in contact with the adjacent convolutions of the associated coil, and has its end in a plane with the sides of the outermost coil.
Referring now to Fig. 2, the shank 6 terminates at its end in coils 7 and 8, the for mer being larger than the latter. The innermost convolutions of the coils 7 have their ends bent outwardly and into engagement with the adjacent parts of the remaining helices. The coils 8 are arranged in the same manner as the coils 3 of the preferred form of the invention.
In Fig. 8 the shank 10 has a greater num ber of larger coils 11, and the terminal 12 of which is arranged in the same manner as the terminal of the coil 2, while the terminal 13 of the coils 14.- are directed inwardly under the adjacent end of theshank 10.
In Fig. a the shank 15 has its coils 16 and 17 so bent that the respective terminals 18 and 19 thereof are both bent inwardly and transversely of the convolutions of the coils.
In Fig. 5 of the drawing the shank 2O terminates at its ends in convolutions 21, which are bent so as to provide conical heads or buttons 22. The terminals of the convolutions 23 are bent to extend transversely through the convolutions.
In the sectional view, Fig. 6, there is shown a form similar to the form shown in Fig. 5, with the exception that the outer ends of the shank 20 are bent to lie against the inner portions of the coils of the heads 21, thereby securely bracino the heads and shank and providing a rigicf structure, these portions of the shank being shown at 24:.
It will be noted that in all of the forms of the invention one set of coils is slightly greater in size than the other set, except those shown in Fig. 6, wherein the heads are of the same size. The convolutions of the coils are pressed into close contact with each other to produce rigid structure without any openings or creases to catch in the clothing.

1. A cud button comprising a shank, the terminals of the shank being formed with llll helix coils, the end of the outermost of each coil being extended transversely through the coils.

A cuff button fOi med frmnL a singlelength of suitable Wire and including a shank and a plurality of helix coils atxthe" Copies of this patent may be obtained for'five'ccncs each, by addressing each end' of the shank and of various diameters to form conical heads, the outer portions of the shank passing through the coils andbearing againstthe inner faces of one side thereof, the ends of the outermost coils being turned transversely inwardly of the coils, the outermost coils being smaller-than the other coils and closing the outer ends of the heads.
