' ILLUMIN'A'IED WATCH-HOLDER.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented July 9, 1918.

Application filed September 5, 1916. Serial No. 118,465.

new and useful Improvements in Illumi nated Watch-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon,

' which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in watch holders and particularly to that class used by motorists or other travelers, the object of the invention being to produce a simple and effective holder for the watch or 7 other time piece to be carried by the glove,

cuff, sleeve or other suitable place on the wrist or hand of the user.

The object of the invention is to carry the watch in a conspicuous and convenient place where it will be readily discernible either in the day or night, the latter being obtainable by means of a simplified form of illuminating structure carried by the user either in the glove, sleeve, cuff or other convenient place with a make and break contact mechanism operable at will.

A further object of the invention is toproduce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly eflective for the purposes for which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of the parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure l is a view of the back of a motorists glove showing my improved watch holder and illuminating attachments therefor.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the holder showing the watch in position therein.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the glove or other similar article to which the holder may be attached. The holder itself embodies a pocket 2 made of leather, rubber or other desirable material having an open face 3 and an inlet opening, as at 4:, arranged to be normally closed by a button 5. While this form of fastener is shown as the preferred form, still in practice any other desired form may be used. Especially if the holder is made of rubber it may be so resilient'as to hold the watch in place without the necessity of any fastener whatever:

The numeral 6 designates the watch which may be disposed within the pocket 2 so that its face will be exposed through the opening 3. Disposed adjacent the opening 3 and so arranged as to throw its light upon the same, is a small electric lamp 7 whichiis provided with an overhanging shade 8 to prevent the glare from the light reaching the user of the watch.

The lamp 7, may be lighted at will in many ways but preferably by means of a small electric battery 9 suitably positioned at any desired point found most adaptable. A wire 10 leads from one pole of the battery to one of the contact points of the lamp 7, and a wire 11 leads from the other pole of the battery to a contact point or button 12 disposed in the fore finger of the glove or at any other desirable place. Similarly a wire 13 leads from the other contact point of the lamp to another contact point or tton 14 in the thumb of the glove or at any point found desirable. To make a circuit and light the lamp the points 12 and 1e are brought together bymoving the finger of the user so that they will be contacted. This completes the circuit through the battery and wiring described and lights the lamp so as to properly illuminate the face of the watch. In the daytime of course this is not necessary as the watch will be readily discernible at will.

From the foregoing description it will readily be seen that I have produced a holder for watches which has a great many advantages and will be of great aid to travelers in general and its simplicity and inexpensiveness is readily apparent.

It will also readily be seen from the fore going description that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present'and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. The combination with a glove having a pocket therein for receiving a time piece, of a. lamp disposed adjacent t 1e. pocket and arranged to cast its rays across the time piece, and meanscontained and operable within the glove for lighting the lamp at will. 1

2. The combination with a hand or wrist 10 cover, of apocket formed on the same and having an open face, means for admitting a watch into the pocket, a lamp disposed adjacent the pocket, a shade overhanging the lamp, an electric battery carried by the cover, contact points disposed in spaced rela tion on the cover and arranged to be brought together at will, and wire connections between the-battery, lamp and contact points.

In testimony whereof I afix my signature.

BENJAMIN F. LOCKWOOD.
