Description

A. L. BUCKLAND.
SUGAR DISPENSER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. I8. 1918.
latentvd Junv 25, lSHh ALFRED L. BUCKLAND, OF MARIETTA, MINNESOTA.
" SUGAR-DISPENSER.
- Specification of Letters l'atent.
Patented June 25, 1918.
Application filed February 18, 1818. Serial No. 217,898. v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED L. BUOKLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marietta, in the county of Lao qui Parle and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Sugar-Dispenser, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sugar dispensing device, one of its objects being to provide a simple structure which can be used for dispensing a measured quantit of sugar and the like, it being possible readily to adjust the device to 'vary the quantity dispensed' thereby.
A further object is to provide a structure of this character which can be filled readily without disturbing the parts and which can be easily kept clean.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the inventlon resides in the combination and arrangement. of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without de arting from the spirit of the invention.
11 the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a central vertical section through the device; and
Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the body of the container the same being provided preferably with the threaded neck portion 2 adapted to be engaged by a cap 3. This cap has a filling opening 4 from which extends a threaded neck 5 for the reception of screw plug 6.
The bottom of the body 1 is inclined downwardly toward 'a depression 7 located 'at the center thereof and which is preferably cylindrical as shown, the said bottom being indicated at 8.
Secured to and projecting downwardly from the cap 3 is a measuring and dispensmg tube 9 the lower end of which is adapted to fit snugly within the recess 7 and is provided with an elongated opening 10 close to the bottom 8. A sleeve 11 is adjustably mounted on this tube 9 and can be adjusted longitudinally so as to. partly or entirely cover the openin 10.
The tube 9 projects outwardly be and the cap 3 and has its free end normal y closed by a hinged flap 12 which is preferably provided with a weight 13 whereby it is held normally closed.
In using the device the sleeve 11 is adjusted along the tube 9 so as to partly cover the opening 10, if so desired, so that the distance between the lower end of the tube and the bottom of the sleeve will be such as to permit a certain quantity of sugar or the like to gravitate through the opening 10 and into the tube. When the sleeve is in one position the tube can be caused to contain a tea'spoonful of the material and, when the sleeve is in another position, a tablespoonful may enter the tube through the opening 10.
The body 1 is filled by pouring the material through the opening 4 and will be supported around the tube 9, a portion of the material gravitating through the opening 10 and into the lower end of the tube 9. By inverting the container that portion of the material within the tube will gravitate downwardly through the tube and into a receptacle provided therefor, it being understood that the flap 9 will open automatically during this operation. As soon as the device is placed upon its base or in its normal position, the lower portion of the tube 9 will refill and the device will again be ready for use.
What is claimed is A dispensing device including a body having a depression in.the center of the bottom thereof, a cap detachably engaging the body and having a filling opening, a tube extending through and removable with the cap one end portion of the tube being fit snugly and removably within the depres- In testimony that I claim the foregoing sion, there being an aperture in the tube as my own, I have hereto afixed my signaand close to thedepression, a sleeve slidature in the presence of two wltnesses.
hle on the apertured portion of the tube and ALFRED L. BUCKLAND. 5 movable against the bottom of the body to Witnesses: seal the lower end of the tube, and. a Weight- 0. E. JENmNe,
e01 closure upon the outer end of the tube. @SCAR J, LARSON.
