To all 'whom z't may' concern:
Be it known that I, CARL PHILLIP HnRn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kewanee, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Molds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in molds, and has for its objectto 'provide a permanent metal mold especially adapted for casting radiator sections.

In the emhodimentofthe invention shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the mold consists of two sections, a section 1 and a Section 2, which are recessed on their abutting faces to form the outline of the radiator section, as' indicated at 3 in Fig. l. As will be noticed by referring to Fig; 1, the recess is an oblong continuous groove having at its upper end an extension 4, and thegroove is contlnued -above the extension to form a gate indicated at 5. Vent openings 6 lead from the top of the recessran other vent openings 7 lead from the ends of t e extensions 4.

It will the noticed that the core is vented vertically, as indicated at 9, and lateral vents 10 extend in each direction trom the vertical vents to the vent openings 7. The molten metal is gate 5, and passes down, ling in the space between the core and the mold walls. Inthe embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 4 the improved mold consists of similar blocks 12 which have their adjacent faces recessed, as indicated at 13, to receive-thin mold sections 14, the said sections beingsimilar. These sections are recessed to form the external surfaces of the radiator section, and the core 15 is supported within the recesses in the usual i'nanner. The mold has a top opening 16 and lateral vents 17 which comniunicate with a vertical opening 18 and lateral 'vents '19, respectively, in the blocks. At the upper e'nd of the blocks is a gate 20 for permitting the metalto be poured into the mold.
In Fig. 5 is shown the section 20a of a mold designed to cast three dii'erent ty es of radiator sections simultaneously. T is section 201'has vrc-rcesses 2l, 22 and 23 which are shaped to correspond with the external surface of the radiator section to be cast. The section also has a gate 24 and passages 25 and 26 leading trom the gate to the tops of the cooperating recesses tion. The extensions 4 of Vthe recesses are to form the bosses et the radiator sections.
I claim:
A mold comprising cooperating sections of metal recessed on their inner faces to correspond with the external surface of a radi- `ator section, each recess having a lateral extension lat its top for forming a boss on the radiator section at each face thereof and at the top, each extension having a laterally extending vent, the sections having a gate at the top of the m ,ld, and the extensions being oft a depth an?` diameter to receive lateral extensions from the core to support the core in proper position in the mold and out of contact with the bottom of the mold.
