Be it known that I, Fit-xxx R.- BATCH- mimcn, a citizen ot the United States, residingat Worcester, in the county ot' 'orcester, State ot' Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in loven Carriers, ot which the following is a sptaitication, reference being had thereinto the accompanving drawings.

The invention has relation to carriers consisting of woven material which is formed into pockets or loops adapted to serve as receptacles. More especially it relates, though not exclusively. tov ammunition carriers and in particular to those having pockets to contain individual cartridges. lhe principle otl the invention is applicable in the caseot' various kinds o'f carriers, including those adapted to be worn as belts or otherwise, but. an important embodiment thereof is in a cartridge carrier or belt for use in machine-guns.

rl`he invention, stated in general terms, consists ina carrier ot the general class 125 aforesaid having a series ot' heavy threads 'or/cords superhcially attached 1n the we'avi 'ing ,to a surface ot' a woven strip constitut- `inga looi'-"or pocket-wall, the said series making a thickening band on, for instance, that portion ot' the pocket or loop which eneireles the bullet of an inserted cartridge.

tached to one surface of a woven strip. In other words, the characteristic feature of the invention `is an independent ply ot heavy threads or cords, as contradistinguished `from a mere increase of thickness or beaded effect due to a greater` multiplicity ot ordinary warp-threads and a change ot' weave. Although the ribs or beads of the prior art sometimes are called cords, by-reason of their appearance, they are not the same as the said supericially attached heavy threads or cords of my invention.

The invention is shown embodied in a woven carrier or belt of a well-known type composed of two woven strips 1, l, placed face to tace and secured together by pairs of metal binders 2, i), etc., 3, 3, etc.. at re0'ular intervals to torni pockets for containing single cartridges 4, t, etc., the two metal inet-,es constituting a pair of binders being located at opposite sides of the two woven strips and being fastened together, with the woven strips between them, by eycletrivets 5, 5, etc. This particular carrier or belt is designed tor use in machine-guus and accordingly, as usual, certaln (2. 2, etc.) of the pairs ot' binders project farther trom one edge ot' the carrier or belt than the points ot the bullets ot' the Iartridges contained 95 in the pockets, to serve to guide the carrier or belt as it is fed through a machine-gun, these pairs heilig known specifically as guides, and the outer extremities of the pair 2` 2, constituting a guide being secured together by an eyelet rivet 6, as shown.

At 7, 7. etc., are the heavy threads or cords lying upon surfaces ot the b0dy-webs of the respective woven strips, and constituting the thickening bands to which reference has been made.
