Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,856, dated May 14, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that We, JOHN S. TRIMBLE and LYMAN WEEKS, of Shelby, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Plow- Points, and we do hereby declare that the followingis a full,- clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a perspective view of our invention in one form. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of our invention in an other form. Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the same.
This invention has relation to the manufacture of plows; and consists in the novel construction, hereinafter described, of a core or body with a recessed front and side edges adapted for the reception of a steel cutter and nose, as specified and claimed.
The letter D of the drawing represents the core or body of our plow. This is constructed with a land-side lug, D, and is recessed, as shown by the dotted lines, to receive and hold the share or cutter G and the nose B. The
land-side lug D is also recessed, as shown by the dotted lines, and adapted thereby to hold the cutting standard or colter A. When thus formed the respective parts may be united by belts or nuts and screws, as may be deemed most desirable. The letter d represents the shank of the nose when inserted in the recess of the core above described. A similar shank is affixed to the colter and the share or cutter G, and when in place presents a similar appearance.
The nose, share, and colter are usually constructed of steel, and the core of iron.
We claim as our invention- A plow having the cast-iron core or body D formed with a land-side lug, D, and recessed at the front and side edges, as described, for the reception of the steel cutter and nose, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
