looking at the open pocket; Fig. 9 is a fragmentary view on an enlarged scale of the closed pocket of Fig. 2; Fig. 10 is a side elevation, still further enlarged, from the opposite side of the showing in Fig. 9; and Fig. 11 is a perspective view, with parts broken away, of the closed pocket.
The brackets 1 carry the idler sustaining rollers 2, while similar brackets 3 carry the driving shaft 4which has fast thereon the actuating sustaining rollers 5. The rollers .2. tra el or he Wa e t t e movab drum or rotary housing having the outer shell 7 mounted on the heads 8, 9. Axially disposed as to the head 9 is the opening 10 which may be closed by the pair of doors 11. This is the entrance or charging opening for the receiving chamber into which used sacks, bags, or sweepings may be introduced, and then the doors 11 closed for confining the fine material or dust therein.
The receiving chamber comprises an annular wall and an annular series of slats 12 mounted on the heads 8, 9, parallel with the axis of the drum. Extending about the slats 12, to leave the slats 12 inside the receiving chamber as heaters, is the perforate wall portion or mesh work 13. For supplementing the beating action of the slats 12, inwardly angularly extending arms 14 rigid with the housing are provided, effective in working the falling material or objects to the center of the drum. This meshwork 13 is spaced from the outer shell 7 to form the collection chamber to which delivery of the separated matter is made by the agitation in the receiving chamber to pass through the perforate wall portion thereof.
The rotary collection chamber has therein a chute 15 provided with the wing 16 to conduct accumulated material into the. hood 18 through the opening 17 in the drum shell 7. This hood 18 or discharge device is normally closed by the gate 19, held shut by the spring 20.
In operation, the device is idle when the handle 21 is in the position shown in Fig. 6. The cam slot 22 has thrust the pin 23, and with it the collar 24 away from the collar 25, so that the rod 26 fast with the collar 24 is shifted through the collar away from the lever 21. The rod 27 is made fast to the collar 25 and carries the belt shifting fingers 28, which in this idleposition hold the belt 29 on the loose pulley 30. The rod 27 is fast with the collar 25 and slidable through the collar 24. The rod 26 carries the belt shifting fingers 31 for shifting the belt 32, now held for driving the loose pulley 33 in an opposite direction to the driving of the loose pulley by the belt 29. Between these spaced loose pulleys 30, 33, is the ulley 34 fast on the shaft 4.
The intermediate portion 35 of the shaft 4 carries the traveling nut 36 embracing the rods 26, Shifting of the hand lever 21.
moving material fromthe collection chamber including a pocket and a valve for opening the pocket.
6. An alternating rotary housing embodying a material receiving chamber, a rotary collection chamber radially exterior of the receiving chamber supplied from said receiving chamber, said collection chamber having a chute, and a discharge device rotatable with the collection chamber and provided with a pocket adjacent said chute and radially exterior of the collection chamber.
7. A. movable housing embodying a material receiving chamber having beaters therein, a collection chamber supplied from said receiving chamber, and a discharge de vice for the collection chamber including a valve controlled device movable with the housing, said housing being peripherally imperforate except for the valve controlled devlce.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for 8. A movable imperforate housing embodying a material receiving chamber having parallel slats, a collection chamber supplied from said receiving chamber, and a discharge device for the collection chamber including an automatic valve device movable with the housing and providing an opening through the otherwise imperforate housing.
9. An alternating rotary imperforate housing embodying a material receiving chamber therein comprising an annular series of arallel slats and mesh work thereover, a co lection chamber supplied through said mesh work from the receiving chamber, anda discharge device for the collection chamber including a pocket rotatable with the housing, and a stationary guide for opening the pocket.
In Witness whereof I affix my signature.
