The nature of this invention relates to the construction of a walking-cane, billiard-cue, or crutch, in suoli a manner that, by the addition of a cloth web, it can be used to support the body of a person in a sitting position; and it consists in the novel and peculiar construction and arrangement of the several parts, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, Av represents a Walkingstick in two parts, connected together by a hinge-plate, a, pivoted at each end in a slot in a metallic ferrule, b, at the top of the lower section, and a similar ferrule, b', at the lower end of the upper section. The ferrule b has a screw-thread, of greater diameter than the ferrule, cnt on the lower end, which is, of course, made of greater diameter for the purpose. Over both ferrules a joint-sleeve, B, may be slipped; and, having a female thread cut in its lower end, may be screwed over the thread of the lower ferrule b, and thus be retained in place, While the extended rod is locked thereby. G is a web of any suitable fabric, with a metallic bar, c, and ring d, sewed across each end. One ring is hooked into a hook, e, near the head of the cane, and the other may be slipped over the ferrule of the extremity of the cane, when the latter is swung around, being provided with a retaining groove for the purpose of receiving said ring and preventing it from slipping down.
The person who uses the device sits astride the web, the joint resting on the ground, and balances him self with his feet, makin g it a very comfortable support at a base-ball, cricket, or shooting match, which will be duly appreciated after 'an hours standing.
When not required as a stool the device may be extended and the web neatly wrapped about it, so that it can be used as a cane; or the web may be removed altogether.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combined walking-stick, bil1iard-cue, andvcamp-stool, wherein the jointed-rodA and web O are constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as described and shown.
