Description

CLARENCE A. FULLER'ION, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WIND OW- JAMB.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1918.
Application iiled May 17, 1916. Serial No. 98,197.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CLARENCE A. FULLER- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Jambs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to metallic con structions and more particularly to the formation of window jambs.
It has for an object to provide a compact form of construction in which parting strips may be securely held to the stile of a winl dow frame and said parting strips may be easily applied or removed when desired, for the insertion or removal of the sashes in or from said frame.
Further objects will be apparent from the Jfollowing specication, appended claim and drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is an isometric view showing the features of this invention incorporated therein,
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view therethrough, and,
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the stile showing the parting strips secured therein.
In carrying out this invention, certain features have been considered to present a compact locking means for holding` the parting strips to a stile of a window frame and said locking means is such as to permit the easy removal or application of said parting strips for the removal or insertion of the sashes of the window.
Referring to the drawing, in which the Copies of this patent may be obtained for several features are clearly shown, 10 indicates a sill having a stile 11 rising therefrom, to the edges of which stile are attached sash stops 12 and 13 and said stile has an offset 14 formed therein, which permits said stile to have the dovetail recess 15 formed therein, and in this dovetail recess are the parting strips 16 and 17, which have the heads 18 and 19 formed thereon., of which the outside faces are beveled to conform with the under cut portions of the recess 15, and the inner faces of these heads may also be beveled to receive contact from a binding strip 20 which may be placed between the strips 16 and 17 and secured to the stile as by the screws 21 so that as said screws are tightened, the Wedging action established b v the beveled faces of the strip 20 binds the dovetail heads 18 and 19 in the recess 15 to securel)7 hold said parting strips to the stile.
Slight modifications maT be made within the scope of the appended claim and the drawings are submitted for illustrative purposes only.
Having thus described this invention, I claim A window jamb construction comprising a stile having a slot formed therein, parting strips secured in said slot, said parting strips having enlarged heads formed on the inner edges thereof for engagement in said slots, and a locking strip insertible in said slot with said enlarged heads of said parting strips, said locking strip engaging the enlarged heads, and means for securing said locking strip to said stile between said parting strips.
In testimony whereof Iv ailix my signature.
CLARENCE A. FULLERTON.
