The pivoted end folders 3 each consist of ahead 13 and detachable plate 14, provided as shown in Fig. 7 with lugs 15 and 16, fitting openings or recesses in the head, and with a threaded stud 17 and a thumb nut 18 for detachably fastening it to the head.
,Each head 13 is formed or provided on the outer side with arms 19 which are pivotally and slidably mounted on rods 20 -passing transversely through longitudinal slots 21 in the upper fixed sections of the side folders and guides 1 and 2. The heads 13 are formed or provided with counterweights 22,
which tend to holdthe end'folders in the positions in which they are shown in Figs. 6 and 7 against stops 23 projecting inwardly from one of the side folders. The pivot rods 20 are fastened at one end in blocks or heads 24, slidably mounted on'bracket bearings 25 on the outer side of the upper fixed section of the side folder 1, as shown in Figs. 1 and 6. These blocks or heads are `movable toward andl from each other, and
are connected vby a right and -left adjusting screw 26, by which the end folders may be simultaneously Ashifted toward-or from each other for wrapping' loaves of different lengths.

The plunger is moved up and down between the folders 'by a lever 29 connected between its ends as width to carry a single load, is attached tol the frame substantially at the level of the plunger in Tits initial position, and on the side of this shelf next to the path of the plunger, a vertically reciprocating gate 35 is guided inA ways 36 on a cross member of the frame, as shown in Figs. 1 and 6. The gate is lifted into operative position above the shelf 34 by springs 37, its upward movement being limited by stops 38 engaging said cross member. In its downward movement'the plunger 4, by engagement with a lugI 39, carries the gate downward with it into inoperative position below said shelf, as shown in Fig. 1.
To prevent the loaf resting on the shelf 34 from being carried upward out of place by the upward movement of the loaf on the plunger and the gate 35, which moves upwardly with the plunger,J a vertically movable guard 40 extends over the shelf 34 and is guided by downwardly projecting parallel arms 41 at its ends in bearings on the frame on opposite sides of the path of the plunger. The guard is moved downwardly into operative position to confine a loaf in place on the shelf 34, when the plunger is lifted with a loaf, by springs. 42 connecting the arms 41 with a cross piece of the frame, and it is moved upwardly into inoperative position when the plunger descends to its inltial position so as to permit the free passage of a loaf from -the shelf to the plunger, 'by levers `43 fulcrumed between their ends on the guideways 36 or other stationary parts of the frame and connected at their outer ends by pins and slots with the arms 41 ofr the guard, as shown in Fig. 6.
The inwardly projecting arms of the levers 43# are engaged by pins or lugs 44 on the gate, so that when the gate is carried with the plunger downward into its 'normal position below the shelf 34, the guard is elevated to permit the free passage of a loaf underneath it.
The side tucker 5, consisting of a flat plate extending across an opening in the top or bed plate 8 and guided in parallel ways 45 at the sides of said opening, is connected by a rod 46 with the upper end of a lever 47, which is fulcrumed between its ends on a cross rod 48. and is provided between its fulcrum and its upper end with a roller 49 in the path of acam 50 on the shaft'32. A spring 51 connecting the lower end of the lever 47 with the frame, withdraws the tucker l5- after its advarce by the cam 50,
its backward movement` being limited by'an il adjustable 'stop screw 52, with which the up- Y per armv of the lever 47 engages.
The end tuckers 6, which are located just above and are movable between and lengthwise of the side folders and guides 1 and 2,"
are detachably fastened to the inner ends of levers 53, which are vertically fulcrumed between their ends to the under side of the 4bed or top plate 8 on opposite sides of the opening therein, and are provided at their outer ends with rollers 54 engaging peripheral grooves of cams 55 on the shaft 32, as shown in Figs 2, 5 and 6. The bed or top plate 8 on which the end tuckers 6 rest and are guided, is lformed withcurved slots, as indicated by dotted lines on Fig. 2, andas shown in Fig. 6, for the passage there through 'of upwardly projecting bosses to4 which the tuckers are fastened at the inner endsfof said levers.
The pusher 7 consists ofta plate detachably'fastened to a head 56 on the inner end of a sliding rod 57, having bearings on the frame and connected with the upper -end of a lever 58 fulcrumed on the rod 48. The cross bar 103 is secured in adjusted position on the bars 86 by a clamping bar 104, which is connected with the bar 103 b a screw 105. The pivoted stop and guidy connected with the cross bar 103 by a slotte arm or bracket 106 attached to said late, and a'thumb screw 107 assing throu slot in said arm or bracket and threa ed in the cross bar, so that the inclination of the stopand guide plate can be varied according to the shape, nature and condition of the loaves to be wrapped.

For feedingl wrapping paper from a rollv to the folding mechanism, the machine is provided on one side, as shown in Figs. 2, 4, 5 and 6, with a pair of feed rollers 128 and 129, which operate intermittently on the paper, and with a pair of constantly operating slack rollers 130 and 131 for drawing the paper from the roll preliminaril to its intermittent advance by the feed rol ers. After the wrapped loaf has been thus deposited by the pusher on the plate 63, which is kept at vthe required temperature by theheater 64, the gate 65 is returned to its original position and the presser plate is moved downward against the top of the loaf', as-shown in Figjl, by the retracting spring 74. The plate 75 yieldingly pressing and holding the bottom of the package against the hot plate 63, vcauses the lapped edgesor folds` of the paraiined or waxed wrapper on the bottom of the loaf to stick together, thereby effectively sealing the package.
' The presser plate 75 is preferably made, 'as shown in Fig. 1, of suficient width 4to act at the same time on two single loaves, or a double loaf.

from the hot plate 63, upon the dischar e belt 87, from which they are removed y the operator.
The bread to be wrapped is ordinarily taken by the operator. from a truck or portable rack such as are used in bakeries, on
which it is placed as it comes from the oven and upon which the wrapped loavesfare re-v placed as they are taken .from themachine.
The feed and discharge conveyers bein located one below the other and near eacli other, enable a single operator to' easily supply the machine with the bread to be wrapped and to remove the wrapped loave therefrom. k
I With the initial upward movement of the plunger 4, the gate l35 is moved upwardly and the guard 40y is moved downwardly, so as to prevent the displacement of the' loaf on the-shelf 34 by the -upward movement of the loaf on the plunger, the
row of loaves on the feed belt 82 being held back by the gate and by the loaf on the shelf till the plunger and the gate return to their initial positions.
As the plunger 4 passes below the wrapper supports 108 and 109 onl its return to its initial position to receive another loaf, the wiper 136 drops in to the recess 138 of cam 135, thereby permitting the upper feed roller 129 to descend and. carry the paper -into contact with the rotatingroller 128. A
suliicient length of paper for a wrapper is thus advanced into proper position on the supports 108 and 109, whereupon the high part of the cam 135 at the end of the recess 138, engaging with the wiper 136 as shown in Fig. 4, lifts the roller 129 away from the roller 128, arresting the further advance of the paper. The cam projection 125 then lengages with the arm 124 of the pivoted cutter bar 115, swinging the` blade 116 upwardly across the edgeof -tlnJ sta tionary blade 114 and cutting a wrappeil of the length required from the strip of paper held between the stationary blade 114 and the guide platel 152 below it.
- While' the feed rollers 128 vand 129 are separated and inoperative, the rollers 130 and 131 continue to operate, drawing paper from the roll above them on the'reel 139, so that enough paper.` is unwound from the roll for a wrapper before it is advanced by the feed rollers 128 and 129 to the folding mechanism.
When the machine is run at a slow or moderate speed, and paper of sufiicient strength is used, the rollers 130 and 131 may be dispensed with, and the paper fed directly from the roll tothe folding mechan ism bythe rollers 128 and 129.
Other mechanism or devices may be used for feeding wrappers to the machine either from a stack or a roll.
If wider loaves are to be Wrapped, the machine is adjusted therefor as follows: The side folder and guide-2fis moved the required distance from the stationary folder and guide 1, the screws 9 being loosened to permit them to be shifted in the .slots 10, and then tightened after the adjustment 'incarna .t

15. 1n a wrapping machine the combination of vertically disposed parallel side folders, a reciprocating plunger movable between them, end folderspivoted between and transversely to the side foldersand on oppo-` site sides of the path of the plunger and counterweighted to turn and project normally inward into and transversely to the path of. an article on the plunger, the side folders extending at the ends beyond the pivots of the end folders, and stops for limitingthe'movement of the end folders.
16. 1n a wrapping machine the combination of opposing parallel side folders, one of which' is adjustable toward and from the other, a reciprocating plunger movable between them, and end folders pivoted between andtransversely to the side folders and on opposite sides of the path of the plunger and each provided with a. detachable folding plate, whereby the end folders may be provided with plates for wrapping articles of different sizes, the side folders extending at the ends beyond the pivots of the end folders.
