Description

B. L. DICKASON.
GE FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC FILMS,
DRYING CA APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 13. I9l7- Patented May 14, 1918 BER/DRAM L. DICKASON, OF COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA.
DRYING-CAGE FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC FILMS. M
Application filed September 13. 1917. Serial No.
72) all whom it may concern:
lie it known that. I. BEHIHAM l1. .UHJK/k son. a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Council Bluffs, in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful linproveinents in Drying- (ages for Photo graphic Films. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pliances and particularly to drying cages for photographic films, prints and the li e, the said invention having for its object the provision of novel means i'i'hereby a film or print or a. plurality of them may be held in position for drying, so that the surfaces of the film or print will not contact those of other films or prints.
In the foregoing introductory statemeht. the term. film or print. has been used as alter native expressions and it is to be understood that a sensitized element; which is to be ex posed to light through a camera or a printing )apcr or other sensitized element used in piotography are practically equivalent members and, therefore in the further description of the invention, the term film" will be employed by which term the other sensitized elements may be expressed.
in drying films. it is desirable to subject the films to heat of moderate temperature to facilitate the absorption of moisture and in carrying out. my invention, I preferably suspend a lilm holding means so that it can be moved nearer to or remote from the heater, such as a gas stove or the like, and su the holder with novel means whereby has of diifcrent lengths may be suspended and photographic apview, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of "warts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 illustrates a view in elevation, partly in 1 ction of the film holder and cage embodying the invention r Fig. 2 ihustrates a view in elevation there of; an

fragments of the frame comprising the cage and parts associated therewith.
In these drawings 5 denotes an upper cage which may be rectangular or square and 6 a owcr cage of corresponding configuration connected by vertically disposed corner members or posts 7 and a plurality of intermediate vertically disposed members 8 extop cage to the bottom cage. The posts 7 and vertically disposed members 8 have pluralitics of apertures such as 9 which are adapted to receive pins 10 for holding the cross bars 1! at dill'erent positions of adjustment with relation to the vertically disposed members. There is also a series of cross bars 12 at the upper end of the cage and the said cross bars 12 each has a plurality of books 13 for engaging or supporting the clips 14. the said clips having apertures 14 to receive the said hooks and the said clips also hold the film if; at its upper end when in the drier. Each of the cross bars 11 has a plurality of springs 16 connected to it and the said springstcrminate in books 17 which engage the clips on the lower ends of the films. it being Sullicient, under ordinary conditions. to utilize one clip at each end of each film. 'lhepurpose of the springs is to hold the film under slight tension and by reason of the adjust ment afforded the cross bars 11, they can be located so that the distance between the co acting hooks will be sufficient to make it nee essary to distend the dcr to cause them to engage e cage members may be secured together atrtheir intersections by angle plates 18 and attached by fastcnings such as rivets or the like 19.
The upper cage member is preferably provided with a plurality of eyelets 20 to which wires or cords 21 are connected. the inner ends of the said wires or cords being joined to a link 22 by which the drying cage is suspended through the medium of the cable 23 which operates over pulleys 24 and 25 tably mounted in brackets 26 and 27 respectively whereby the c relation to the source of heat.
claim:
1. In a film drier. a cage, an upper and a. lower frame, vertically disposed members supported by the upper and lower frames, v connected to the said vertically disposed members, stationary cross bars on the said' vertically disposed the clips.
springs slightly in or-' age may be moved with members, clip engaging hooks on the said cross bars, and means for suspending the structure.
2. In a device for drying films, a cage, an upper and a lower frame, vertically disposed bars extending from the upper to the lower frame, a. plurality of cross bars in a given plane, a plurality of cross bars, each of which coacts with one of the first mentioned cross bars, means for adjustebly connecting one of said cross bars to each of the vertically disposed bars, springs connected to one set of cross bars, and clip engaging members carried by the springs.
3. In at device fUl drying films, a cage, an 15 burs extending from the upper 10 the lowerframe, a plurality of cross bars in a given plane, a plurality of cross bars, each of which coac's with one of the first mentioned cross hers, means for mljzilstnlily connecting one of said cross bars to each of the vertically disposed burs, springs connected to one not of [:i-osslmi's, clip engaging members carried by the springs, and clip engaging lneni- 25 hers carried by the other cross bELl'S.
