THOMAS E. BARNUIVI, OF lwIILWAUKEE, WISCGNSIN, ASSIGNCIR TO THE CUTLER-HAIJIMER MFG. 00., OF I/IILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, A CORPORATIGN GE WISCONSIN.
CIRCUIT-CONTROLLER.
Application filed April 8, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS E. BARNUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Circuit-Controllers, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawin forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to circuit controllers and more particularly to contact supporting means therefor.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide contact supporting means of simple and inexpensive construction which will provide for firm support of the one or more contacts carried thereby and which will pro vide for expeditious and easy mounting of such contacts.
A further object is to provide supporting means readily adaptable to alternative types of contacts.
Other objects will hereinafter appear.
The accompanying drawing illustrates a controller embodying the invention and the same will now be described, it being under stood that the invention is susceptible of embodiment in other forms falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a partial sectional view of the drum controller with the drum merely shown in broken lines; and,
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the contact supporting means adapted to an alternative type of Contact.
Referring to Fig. 1, the controller comprises a rotary contacting drum 1 arranged to cooperate in the usual manner with a plurality of relatively fixed contact fingers 2 (only one of which is illustrated) each finger being carried by a bracket 3 mounted upon a fixed base or support a and 1nsu lated therefrom, and all of the above parts being inclosed in a suitable casing 5.
The base is fixed in parallel relation to the drunrl and at right angles to its direction of movement, and is formed polygonal in cross section. The bracket 8 is correspondingly shaped to fit around said base and comprises sections 6 and 7 The bracket section 6 comprises a flat plate bent to the proper angle and having one leg thereof crimped to form a socket or pivot bearing Specification of Letters Patent.

8 for the contact. finger 2 of conventional form, said leg having also an offset extremity 9 forming a stop for said finger. The other leg of said section is left fiat. The bracket section 7 which is similarly bent and provided with an angularly offset extremity 10 supplements the section 6 in circumengaging the base 1 and said sections are clamped thereabout by bolts 11 and 12. The bolt 11, in addition to its clamping function, is properly located and proportioned to constitute a stem for a conventional tensioning device 13 for the finger 2, while the bolt 12 is extended to form a binding post for a terminal lug 14c. The bracket also serves to support an insulating plate 15 to shield the same from arcs drawn by the drum 1, said plate being recessed to receive the bracket extremity 9 for support at one end and being secured at its opposite end to bracket extremity 10 by a screw 16.
The arrangement shown in Fig. 52 employs the same bracket for an alternative type of contact. The bracket is, however, shifted about the base to present the flat portion 17 thereof in proper relation for supporting the alternative form of contact finger 2 which is mounted upon a plate18 riveted to said portion of the bracket. In this construction the shield 15 and the offset extremity 9 are omitted, while the supplemental bracket section 7 is reversed endwise, the relation and co-action of parts being otherwise the same as in the preceding figure.
Obviously the above described supporting bracket is capable of ready and facile attachment or detachment and is further adapted to be readily shifted with respect to its base to accommodate either of the alternative types of contact finger shown. It is further obvious that the said bracket may be readily adapted to types of contact finger other than those disclosed. The con struction, moreover, is simple and rugged and well adapted by its location and ar rangement to resist the strains incidental to use.
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:
1. Contact supporting means for circuit controllers, comprising a base and a bracket having means to secure the same to said base, said bracket having mounting parts for alternative forms of contactsv and bea Contact mount- 1 having a part to 1&1 a 11101.11ting for halts for said gen 59 controlle ame firmly upon 50 an averting means for circuit 1:: comprising" a supporting base bet sail Alt-act Qarrymg bracket the former altewai 301' m crass sectlon and the 5* mwuhz. sections surroundumi Tasks for said sections V clamp the same upon said ne of said bolts being extended to stem for 1 tension device for the zattached thereto and another e; Jldfid :50 provide a bracket 1 n ssmd ma means if circuit snpportmg name 0011131 "1 n aginfi' am mounting mrm m1 01- an 70 summon the Commission? of
