A TTORNE Y8 JAMEsw. IVORY, OFPHILAIDEIJPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DENTAL MULTIILE-JAW CERVIX-CLAMP.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 7, 1918.
v Application filed December 18, 1917. Serial No. 207,654.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. IVORY, a subject of the King'of Great Britain, residing in the city andcounty of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Dental Multiple-J aw Cervix- Clamp, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention consists in providing. a dental cervix clamp with a plurality of interchangeable auxiliary jaws adapted for different purposes, as for instance, one for ordinary cervical cavities, and others, rights and lefts for cavities that extend around and be tween the teeth on. either side, they being adapted to fit the juncture of the bow of. the clamp and are easily changeable, providing also for the attachment of jaws of other patterns.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but the important instrumentalities thereof maybe varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims. Figures 1 and 2 represent elevations of opposite sides of a dental multiple jaw cervix clamp embodying my invention.
Fig. 3 represents an elevation at a right angle to Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 represents a longitudinal section of the clamp.
Fig. 5 represents an elevation of the bow of the clamp having thereon a member embodying my invention.
Fig. 6 represents an elevation of a bow having thereon an auxiliary jaw, and the attaching device therefor embodying my invention.
Fig. 7 represents a perspective view of said jaw and device.
Fig. 8 represents a section thereof on line 8-8 Fig. 7. i
Fig. 9 represents a transverse section of a portion on line 99 Fig. 2.
Figs. 10 and 11 represent elevations of jaws for right and left purposes.
Figs. 12, 13 and 14 represent elevations of different forms of auxiliary jaws that may be employed, Fig. 13 being at a right angle to Fig. 1
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings. 1 designates the how of a dental cervical 'able auxiliary jaws 5, as
marginal clamp, and 2 and 3 designate jaws thereof mounted slidably on the'frame of the clamp which jaws with other features, and the operating mechanism of the movable members are in general respects the same as shown in the dental cervical marginal clamp for which Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,032,833, were granted to me on the 16th day of July, 1912.
To the terminals of said bow as shown in said patent there is attached the outwardly extending tongue at which forms a juncture for said terminals on what comprises the crown of the bow which is adapted to support different forms of separate interchange will be hereinafter described.
In Fig. 6 I show one of said jaws, it being of segmental shape and standing out from the base of a sleeve 6 which may be fitted on the tongue 4 and so supported, said sleeve having connected therewith the re-.
silient finger 7 forming a spring which is adapted to bear against said tongue 4 and so by'friction retain the sleeve and consequently the jaw 5 on said tongue.
In the base of the tongue 4. is the recess 8 into which the terminal of the spring 7 is seated so as to assist in retaining the sleeve 6 with its jaw 5 steadily and firmly in position on the tongue 4.
In Figs. 10 and 11 the jaws are made respectively right and left. In Figs. 12,13 and 14 the jaws are of lengths or breadths different from those shown in Figs. 6, 10, and 11.
It will be seen that owing to the jaws employed on the bow the clamp is adapted to meet any condition that would appear in the class of cavities in teeth. The jaws are made narrow Or broad for ordinary cervical cavities, and rights or lefts for cavities that extend around and between the teeth on either side.
Jaws of other patterns are adapted to be employed and attached to the tongue 4 and held in position thereon.
It will be seen that I employ three jaws each independent of the other. When the clamp is applied, the jaw on the bow is carried in position above the cavity or margin by the operation of the proper screw of the how, the force being sure but being exerted gradually. When the clamp is placed on the tooth but not drawn too taut, the labial jaw must be capable of moving. Then the edge of the rubber that is around the tooth should be misec't se that it tes s 011 the etfltl at the top of the bet'oe forcing thejawinte posi. the keeps the rubber out 0: the W 2111' vents it from being torn.
