Description

M. N. MIKULIC. SEAT AND BACK FOR BARBER CHAIRS. APPLICATION FILED Aue.22. \9l6.
Patented May 7,1918.
attorney UNIT MILOS NIKOLE MIK'U'LIC, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
SEAT AND BACK FOR BARBER-CHAIRS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May "2, 1918.
Application filed August 22, 1916. Serial N 0. 116,285.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILos N. MIKULIO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain useful Improvements in Seats and Backs for Barber-Chairs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary barber, electric and railroad car chairs, one object of the invention being the provision of a back and seat therefor consisting of a plurality of rollers, all of said rollers being connected so as to be rotated in unison to thus present a new surface whenever desired.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, and thoroughly efficient and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a barber chair made according to and embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the side and back thereof.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the gearing for operating the rollers of electric and railroad car seats.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of an electric and railroad car chair made according to and embodying the present invention.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the main supporting portion of the chair which carries thereon the casing 6, and has swingingly connected thereto the frame 7 carrying the casing 8.
The casing 6 has journaled therein the shafts 9, upon which are mounted within the casing 6 the cushioned rollers 10 which present a seating surface, and in reality form the seat for the chair.
Mounted in the casing 8 are shafts 11,
which have cushioned rollers 12 which co operate to form a cushioned back for the chair.
These rollers are so mounted as to be readily rotated to thus present a new surface for operation.
Mounted upon one end of each of the shafts 9 are gears 13, while mounted upon one end of each of the shafts 11 are gears 14, all of which are in mesh for simultaneous operation.
Mounted upon the frame 7 at one side of the chair is a short shaft 15, which has fast thereon the large gear 16 having the operating handle 17. This gear 16 is in mesh at all times with one of the gears 9 and 1%, so that by rotating the gear 16, the rollers 10 and 12 are simultaneously rotated.
My invention is a novel means to ventilate seats and backs of chairs used by the public, such as barber chairs, electric and railroad car chairs, and to avoid infection of contagious diseases.
Brushes 20 are employed to clean and dust the rollers as the rollers are being rotated.
Any method of gearing the rollers to cause them to be rotated may be employed.
What I claim as new is r In a device of a class described in combination a pair of rectangular frames, means for supporting one'of said frames in horizontal position, means for connecting the other frame at an angle with respect to the first frame, a series of rollers journaled within each frame so that the uppermost points in their peripheries project outwardly with respect to the outer edges of said' frames, said rollers being also in contact with one another, a series of smaller gears carried by the rollers of the angularly positioned frame, being longer than the rollers of the other frame and having gears larger than the first named gear, the members of each set of gears adapted to intermesh, a gear larger than any of the first named gears positioned between the first and second named frames and meshing with one gear of each set, and an operating handle secured to the last named gear.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MILOS NIKOLE MIKULIC.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Iatents, Washington, I). 0.
