My invention relates to locking devices and more particularly to hood locks for automoblles and has for one of its objects the provisions of a device that is electrically 'may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Referring moreparticularly to the draw ings, the letter A designates the casin of my lock adapted to be secured in-the c annel frame of an automobile, and comprising a top 2 having elongated aperture 2 therein, a side 3, a short side 4, a lug 4E and an end 5 having an elongated slot 6 therein. A three sided inner casing 7 is secured in the casing A and carries an electromagnet 8 and contact posts 9 and 10 in circuit withthe electromagnet and adapted to receive lead wires to a suitable source of current.
An armature latch, having a body portion 12 ofsuitable material subject to magnetism and catch-portion 13 and finger release 14 of non-magneticmaterial, is pivoted in the casing A by pivot arms 15 and 15* which are inserted in suitable apertures in the top 2 and lug 1. The finger release 14 extends through the elongated slot 6 in the end 5 of the casing. J
The body portion 12 of the armature latch is provided witha suitable lug 12 on a line with the lug 11 and a coil spring 23 is mounted on the lugs 11 and 12 in such a manner as to normally hold the armature latch out of engagement with the electromagnet 8. v
A suitable keeper 16 adapted to be secured to the hood of an automobile and hav- 1ng an aperture 16 is adapted to pass through the slot 2 in the top 2 and be en- .gaged by the catch 13 of the armature.
Referring now to Fig. 7 of the drawings,
B designates the main switch of an automobile having a post 17 connected by suitable wire to the battery 18, a second post 19 having lead wire 20 terminating in switches 21 and 21 and a contact lever 19" is adapted to close the circuitbetween the posts 17 and 19.
The'switches 21 and 21 are connected to the one pole of the electromagnet 8. A suitable lead wire 22 is connected to the other pole of the magnet and to the battery 18.
The contact lever 19 being closed the cirwire 22 to the battery, energizing the mag net 8 and attracting the bodyportion 12 of the armature latch and releasing the keeper 16.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a main casing, a supplemental'casing secured within said main casing and cut away at one end to form a projecting lug, an armature pivoted to said first name casing, a catch of non-magnetic material secured to said armature, a lug formed on said armature in line with the lug on said supplemental casing, an electromagnet secured within saidsupplemental casing and adapted to attractsaid armature when energized, and a coil spring mounted on said lugs for normally holding said armature out of engagement with said electromagnet.
2. In combination with an automobile having a hood, a lock comprising a main casing, a supplemental casing cut away at one end to form a projecting lug, an armature pivoted to said first named casing, catch armature when energized, a coil spring 10 and finger engaging members of non-magmounted on said lugs for normally holding netic material secured to said armature, said said armature out of engagement with said finger engaging memberbeing-adapted to electromagnet and a; keeper secured to said pass through an aperture in said casing, a hood and adapted to be engaged by said lug formed on said armature in a line with catch. 15 said lug on said supplemental casing, an In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my electro-magnet secured Within said supplesignature.
