' GAME APPARAT S.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, ISIDORE MAR' ;s,*a citi-' Zen of the United States, residingat Boston, in the'county ofSuffolk and Stateof lifassac'husetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Appai ratus; and'I do hereby declare the follow ing to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which" it 'appertains to make and use the same, I
This invention relates game apparatus and more p art cularly to apparatus for: that"; class of games' whlch require a board-and separate game men which are 'free to be movedfrom one positiont o another onk the board.
It is desirable to provide game apparatus of the character indicated which, without outside wrapping of any sort, can be transported by a player without dangerof losing the 'gamemen. Accordingly, an object" of the present in'ventionis to provide a game board and game menfiwh ich are associated or secured together in such manner thatfthe game men are always available for play and cannot be lost during the transportation of the apparatus fr'omplace to place or when the apparatus is not muse, As an incident to such object a further object of the invention is to provide a game board which can 1" of the invention are attained will be understood from the following description of the preferred embodiment of the invention, which is illustrated 1n the accompanying drawings, and in which: Figure v1 is a plan' view of the game board, unfolded and ready for use, except that the game'men are shown as still secured to the board; Fig. 2 is a plan view of one corner of the game board to which the game men may be attached; Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Specification of Letters Patent. r I, g Application ii eanembef 4, 1917. I Se1'ial 1 Io.205,282. r
Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 shows the-game board folded for 1 the purpose; of llIELIlSPOItELtlOlL-x In the embodiment of the invention illus-' 'trated in the drawings the game board 5 showhasachecker board, and isgformed of cloth "having the; required colored squares stamped onifon'e side.= Preferably the cloth is water-proofed, and may beia thin, flexible sheet of rubber or rubberized textile fabric.- By provldmg a water-proof game board 1t may beais'ed" under adverse conditions and carried exposed in all sorts of weather, without'damage. This feature ofthe board is especially valuablefor such players as soldiers-when on trench duty." For the same reason thecheckersfshown asdisks 6, are made of a stiff water-proof material, for example sheet celluloid.) When so made the. f checkers have the further advantage 0f not being'bulky, and can, therefore, becarried with the board wvith-a min'imum requirement] of packing space. "This,=a1so"- isextremely' advantageous to I soldiers who are restricted as' to th theyjcan carry.
In the board', preferably in 'one 'cor-ner' as shown 1n Fig. 2, the/r6 18 formed a"'pere size and weight "of what foration which may be reinforced withwan eyelet 7 for strength, andeach checkerfi is provided with a preferably, central perforation 8. The checkers are secured to the board, when not wanted for play, vby passing a fastening device through the perforations inthe checkers and the board, thus preventing their separation during periods when the apparatus is not in use. A simple and preferable'fastening device is a headed, split-pin 9 which may conveniently be in the form of-the ordinary brass McGill fastener.
The legs 10 of the split-pin may be passed through the eyelet 7, and the checkers 6 are threaded thereon in a single stack by means of their perforations 8; the flexible legs 10 thereafter being bent apart and across the as shown in Fig. 1. The head 11 of the fastener prevents its being drawn through the perforation in the board. Obviously the.
' end of the stack to hold the checkers in place l split pin 9 may be passed through the perforations from the other direction, with'its head against the checkers, if desired.
It will be observed that after the game men are fastened in place, the board, with the men securely but removably attached thereto, maybe folded, like a j pocket handkerchief, into an exceedingly compact pack age (see Fig. at) for which room can always be'found in the pocketor pack of the player;
The advanta es of the" ame a aratus.
described are obvious. The danger of having the men when not in use become sepa' rated from the board is ail,- no outside container or cover of'stifi material, which" .makes a bulky package, is required; the parts of the apparatus are all thin and,
hence, the folded apparatus is fiat and is easily stowed and the water-proof material from whichal-l the parts are made provides for lon-glife.-
'1. Game apparatus. comprising, a game board, game men, and means for removably fastening the men tothe boardiin a single stack when the apparatus is not iii-use. i,
2. Game apparatus comprising a game board having a perforation in one-portion thereof, perforated game men, and a flexible fastening -device adapted to be passed through said perforations and bent to se-v cure game men to the board when not wanted-for play.
8. Game apparatus comprising a game board having-its playing area composed of foldable, shee't-mater1al, game men of thin, stifl material, and means for securing all the men to the board, whereby the board with the men attached thereto may be folded across the playing area for the purpose of transportation. 1 i
4. Game apparatus comprising a game board of flexible water-proof material, game men of stiff water-proof material, and means for securing game men to'the board in a stack when not needed for play.
game board of textile fabric having a per foration in one portion thereof, a set ofgame men each having a perforation therethrough, and a hea'ded split-pin adapted to be passed through the perforations in the board and men and then bent to hold the men in a stack when the board is folded,
' ,6..Game apparatus comprising checker board of flexible material, checkers produced from thin sheet material, and means for re movably securing the checkers to the checker board at a single point whereby the board and checkers may be folded into an insepa rable compact packagefor the purpose of:
transportation. V
