To @ZZ i12/tom t may concern Bo it known that l, Louis MEHLBERGER, a subject of the Emperor ofv Germany, (I having declared my invention to become a citi,- Zen ofthe United States,) and a resident of lilastrm, in the county of' Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved' Fertilizer-Distributer and Planter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My present invention relates to the type of agricultural machines disclosed in United States Letters Patent, No. 1,011,071 granted to me December 5, 1911, and United States Letters Patent No. 1,215,955 granted to me February 13, 1917.
The particular object of the present invention is to provide a novel drill attachment in connection with certain features of the machines disclosed in my above mentioned patents, the said features being modified in the particulars as will hereinafter appear.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speciirisation in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a machine embodying my present invention;

Fig. e is a vertical section of one of the dropper tubes of my drill attachment;
Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken at right angles to Fig. 4;

In general the machines as shown in the patents referred to include a frame 10 supported on axles, one of which is shown, designated by the numeral 11, said axle hav-v ing running wheels 12. Mounted on suitable supporting elements 18 is a hopper 14.
A vertical shaft 15 driven in a manner hereinafter described extends through the contracted cylindrical lower end or discharge spout 16 of the hopper. Within said spout 16 the shaft 15 is provided with a feed screw 17 and on said shaft at the upper end arev agitating fingers 18 conforming generally to the conical intermediate portion 19 of the hopper. Above the lingers 18 there is employed in the patented machines referred to and preferably utilized herein, a horizontal screen plate20 through which the vertical shaft 15 extends, said shaft above the screen plate having` agitating blades 21. Above the agitator 21 suitable feed and regulating means are provided, including. a slide 26 and as said means form no part of the present invention they need no further description.
The feed screw 17 discharges material onto a round table 32 above which is a revoluble distributing or scattering element 83 presenting a series of radial arms which are free and unconnected at their outer ends and extend radially to sweep at their outer ends over the outlets and to sweep over the table inward from the outlets whereby to take the material from the center of the table outwardly toward the outlets and fixed fla-nge Se.
The table 32 is formed with a vertical liange 3e and the said flange instead of being open at the rear as in my patented machines referred 'to extends completely across the rear of the machine and preferably is continuous entirely around the edge of the table. The flange serves as a guard to prevent discharge of the material laterally by the revolution of the revoluble element 33.
In the present invention the drill attachment includes series of dropper tubes 35 beneath the table 32. In order to permit seeds or fertilizer to be delivered to the dropper tubes an arcuate series of outlet holes 86 are formed in the table 82 and nipples 37 are provided on the under side of the table at the said outlet holes and constitute hoppers, there being a hopper for each dropper tube 36. Each dropper tube 36 is made up of a plurality of individual ducts or tubes, there being three in the illustrated construction whereby to insure the dropping of three rows of seed, for example, in close relation. The tubes 35 are so disposed at the sides and rear of the table 32 as to deposit the seed or fertilizer in spaced drills. The revoluble distributing device 33 as will be seen sweeps the material over the ltable 32 causing it to be distributed simultaneously to the several dropper tubes. The lower end of the individual ducts of each dropper tube 35 is provided with a shovel 38 to form drills in advance of the respective dropper tubes.
Any suitable actuating means is provided for the revoluble device 33, there being illustrated a bevel pinion 44 on the shaft 15 and meshing with a similar inion 45 on a horizontal shaft 46 which 1s driven from the axle ll through the medium of intermeshing gears 47, 48.
I wish to state in conclusion that although the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, l do not limit myself to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In an agricultural machine of the class described, a table, a fixed flange on the said table at the edge, the table having an annular series of outlets within the fixed iange, means to deliver material to the said table inward from the series of outlets, a distributing device rcvolubly mounted above the table, inward from the said outlets, the said device presenting a series of approximately radial arms adapted to sweep over the table and over the outlets to advance the material received from the delivery means outwardly toward the outlets, the said iiange being adapted to arrest the material thrown outward by Vsaid distributing LOUIS MEHLBERGER.
