conNnLIUs J. BEEMAN, or Amon, omo.
Be it known that I, CoRNnLrUs J. BEE:-
MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing f Akron, in the county of at 6 17-Upson St., Summit and State of Ohio, have lnvented which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in doors for closing large doorways in such structures as barns, garages, etc. The obin connectionwith a wide doorway such as are commonly employed for garages, etc., where for various reasons, such as lack of space, the use of a swinging, lifting or folding door is not entirely feasible and where it is the entire door used for closing a wide doorway, into a position at an angle to the wall containing the doorway as for instance along an adjacent side wallto thereby economize spacewhile at the same time leaving the doonway entirely vfree for use. Furthermore the, invention contemplates the provision of means for accomplishing the foregoing result in such a manner that the shiftlng 'of the door may be done with a minimum Vamount of labor and when the door is'in its view, the invention consists in the novel'conf struction, combination andarrangement of parts constituting the invention to be herel inafter specically described and illustrated.
in the accompanying .drawings which formy a part hereof'whereln is shown the pre-4 ferred embodiment of the invention, but'it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can-be resorted to which come within the-scope ofthe matter hereinafter claimed.
" In the drawingsin which similar reference numerals indicate like parts in @endifferent figures,
' Figure 1 is a vhorizontal sectional view taken approximately on line 41-1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a view. looking from the interior structure provided with an opening with a wide doorway `and showing my imprtvedl door in Aits operative positionwith rc1 especially practicable to bodily move.V

spect to said doorway, said view -being taken approximately on line 2-2 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. 60
Referring to the drawings in detail it' will be assumed for the purpose of illustrating the present invention that it relates to a closure door for an ordinary garage having atceillng 1, a front wall 2 and one or more 65 all similar and are preferably supported `from the ceiling or roof 1v and as the supporting means and tracks are of uniform construction a description of one is believed to be Suiiicient for the understanding of 8O them all. Each track consists of an inverted trough-shaped member 9 the upper portion 10 of -which is arcuately-formed and with the side wallsll in approximate parallelism and with the lower edges of the walls 11 up- 85 warclly and inwardly turned toward each other to provide a palr of parallel tracks or bearing -surfaces 12. These tracks 12 are in parallelism longitudinally of thel entire device and are Aseparated a desired distance 90 for' the purpose for which they are to be utilized and constitute rails for the reception of supporting Awheels to be later de- The varlous ytracks are. supported Y bv brackets, al1 of uniform construction and 95 hence a description of one is believed to be sucient for the understanding of all. Each bracket consists of a head 13 which is preferabiy secured b anyv suitable holding ace of the ceiling 1 of 100 and from the head 13 depends the buildin f F stem 14.- the. lower portion of an integra y which is provided with divergent furcations 15 the lower portions or edges of which are inwardly bent at 16 and are clenched over 105 the lower portions of the wallsll, for sustaining the track in position. In practice vthe arcuate portion 8 ponnecting the portions 6 and7 of. the track is formed upon the arc of a perfect circle 'preferably hav- M0 in a relatively long radius. l he door employed may be of any con- Y 26 provided with 'of' the dorway, weig struction and consists o'f two or more members hinged together, the number of members of each door depending upon the width ht, convenience .and other factors not necessary In the` drawings the door shown comprises three members, 17 18 and 19. pivotally united together by means of ordinary hinges 20. The three members are of suiiicient width the opening 4 in the wall 2 when the vdoor is moved toits operative'or closed position. In practice it is preferable to provide the door 19 which is adjacent to the straight track 5 with an extending arm 21. The entire door made up of the members 17, 18
and 19 is arranged to be suspended from the tracks 5, -6, 7 and 8 the preferable means for vsuspending the door is a plurality of trolleysall ofwh'ch are similar and sequently a descri tion of one is believed to be sufficient for4 the understandingv of them all. In practice where a three membered door is employed the .door 17 will be provided with two trolleys 22 and 23 positioned at the opposite' upper corners of the door andthe door 18 with a trolley at its upper right hand corner and the extension or arm 21 on the door 19 will be provided with a trolley 25. The means of attaching the various trolleys'to the door consist in forming recesses 1n the upper edge of the door in -which are socketforming members upper walls 27 separated lower faces of the recesses where spaces 28 and in the `from the the sockets occur by upper walls 27 are vertical apertures 29.
Each trolley consists of an upright stem 30 having the lower end 31 theerof threaded and arranged to extend througl an aperture 29, and each provided within a/recess- '28 with nuts 32. The upper end of each stem is provided with a head 33 through which extends a shaft 31 on each end of which is mounted a grooved wheel 35 so positioned as to run on one ofthe rails of the track 12. The trolley 25 willbe positioned so vas to run on the overhead track 5 and the remaining trolleys 22, 23 and 24: are arranged to run o n the combined tracks 6,
A7 and 8. When the door is in its closed or to here describe.v
to overlap and entirely close con- ' Lacasse operative position it will be disposedas shown in solid lines in Figs. 1 and 2. it is desired to move the door to its open or inoperative position the operator draws the door 19 to the right in Fig. 1V causing the trolley 25 to run along the track 5 away from the Wallv2 and as the arm 21 of the door 19 moves to the ,right in Fig. lgthe trolleys 22, 23 and 24 f the other members 17 and 18 of the door are drawn along the track 6 and follow over arcuate portion 8 ontothe track 7 which is parallel with the track 5 and when in its completely inoperative position it will assume the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, with the trolley 25 of the memberv 19 on the track 5 and the' trolleys 22, 23 and 24 of the other members of the door on/the straight portion 7 of the other track. In
the curvilinear or Y closing the door the operation is reversed. l
In practice astop or lug 36 may be provided near the floor of the building for holding the loose lower end of the member 17 of the door and the remaining members 18 and 19 are provided with ordinary locking bolts 37 for holding them in their closed or operaf with the inner one of the first pair of tracksv by an arcuately curved portion, a door comprisin a plurality of unitshinged together, a trol ey secured to the upper portlon of each unit, one trolley on one end of said door arranged to run on the outer one of said first pair of tracks along said unopened wall and the trolleys on the other units arranged to run on the inner parallel track,
the arcuate track and the track along the wall having the opening.
' In testimony whereof I have hereunto setr my hand. t
