Description

ROBERT L-ENT.
Improvement in Brick-Mold Sanding-Machine.
No. 126,063. Patented ApriI 23,1872.
UNITED STATES PATENT Grrron.
ROBERT LENT, OF GLASCO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN BRlCK-MOLD-SANDING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,063, dated April 23, 1872; antedated April 20, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT LENT, of Glasco, in the county of Ulster and State of -New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brick-Mold- Sanding Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the same, and in which- Figure 1 represents a plan view of my improved machine for sanding brick-molds, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof through the dotted line w w of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference in the two figures refer to like parts.
This invention has reference to an improved machine for sanding brick-molds preparatory to their receiving the clay from which the bricks are made or molded; and it consists of parallel disks secured suitably upon an axle, and supplied with means for feeding the sand to the molds, resting and held upon their peripheries by suitable means, in combination with a receptacle or sand-box, all constructed and arranged to operate as hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe it.
In the annexed drawing, A refers to a receptacle or the sand-box, the metallic bottom of which is of a curvilinear shape, and fastened between'sides, to which are secured end pieces'or legs for supporting the said receptacle. These legs or supporting-pieces are strongly braced and held together by means of longitudinal and transverse bars a a. B refers to two disks, which are fastened a suitable distance apart, and parallel with each other, upon an axle or shaft, 1), having its bearings in journal-boxes secured upon the upper longitudinal bars of the sand-box A. To this axleorpshaft may be attached a crank or other suitable appliance for communicating motion to the said disks. b b refer to shoes or boards, which are fastened transversely to the peripheries of the disks B B equidistant from each other, and so beveled or inclined as that, when the said disks are revolved, they will scoop up the sandin the sand-box A and throw it into the molds O O placed upon the said disks and alongside of the saidshoes, as seen in Fig. 1. The bevel given the shoes I) b is plainly shown in Fig. 2. The molds G O are placed and held upon the peripheries of the disks B B in an inverted position between the heels of the shoes b b and pins or projections c c, fastened to the peripheries of said disks, and so bent as that, when the molds are brought to a point a little above the table of the machine, they will allow the molds to be precipitated upon said table, when the surplus sand upon said molds is jarred off the same upon said table and carried oif back into the sand-box from whence it was taken, thereby avoiding the wasting of the sand. To permit of the sand removed from the molds passing through said table D, above referred to,
which consists of a projecting ledge orboard fastened to the sand-box between two of its end-supports or legs, the said table is supplied with a series of longitudinal apertures or slots commimicating with a trough or chute, D, with its lower extremity entering the sandbox, and through which chute the sand aforesaid is carried to the latter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The revolving disks B B, carrying the shoes or scoops b b and pinsc 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The sand-box or receptacle A, in combination with the perforated table D and chute D, constructed and arranged substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In combination with the revolving disks B B, the sand-box or receptacle A, table'D, and chute D, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 26th day of September, A. D. 187l,in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses: ROBERT LENT.
