Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mal'.- 19, 1918.
Application led August 31, 1917. Serial No. 189,177.
To all wlw/1t t mail] concern:
Be it known that I, SILIGENARI FJIMonI, a citizen of Japan, residing at Elmhurst, in the county of Dupage and States of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bath-Brush Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes, and more particularly to'that class thereunder known as bath brushes.
The primary object of the invention contemplates the provision of a novel construction of implement so designed to be expe-A ditiously connected with the brush and enable a person to manipulate the same for either Washing or brushing the back or other portion of the body, and whereby the brush may be readily detached for use by itself in any well-known manner.
It is also within the scope of the present invention to provide a device of the nature indicated which is extremely simple in construction, eificient .and durable in use, and one which may be readily adjusted to various lengths as the occasion may so demand. i With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features,
Y details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be more fully set forth as the desemption of the invention is proceeded with.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is .a top plan', yiew of the brush showing the implement connected thereto for use;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation; 'and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the implement removed from the brush.
Referring more particularly tothe accompanying drawing, 5 denotes a bath brush provided with a substantially ovalshaped back 6 having a hand engaging strap 7 The chief characteristic of the present invention resides in the production of a manipulating implement for a brush of the above stated character to enable the user when bathing to satisfactorily cleanse the back or other part of the body, and to this end, I provide on the opposite ends of the back a pair of female members 8, illustrated in the preferred embodiment of the invention as constituting screw eyes having their stem portions screwed into the peripheral edge of the brush in such a manner as to position each pair of the female members beneath the hand engaging strap or loop Y 7. Carried by the flexible manipulating element at points .adjacent the opposite ends of the brush are a pair of brush connecting elements 11 each embodying a single strand of material, preferably cord, connected at their intermediate portion to the strap by the provision of fasteners 12. Obviously, these connecting elements 11 are so spaced from one another as to facilitate the connection of the fiexible strap to brushes of various sizes. Terminally provided on each of the connecting elements are resilient hooks 13 adapted to connect or engage in the eyes 14 of the female members, consequently,
serving to connect the manipulating element with thebrush for the purpose above stated. However, should the occasion so demand for an increase or decrease in the length of the lexible manipulating element, such may be readily accomplished by the adjustment of the buckles 15 in a direction lengthwise of the flexible element| and toward or from the brush head 6. It will therefore` be seen that the purpose of the buckles 15 is to facilitate the adjustment of the flexible strap 10 for convenience of users of different heights, that is to say, permitting of the'brush being conveniently used by a short armed person as well as long armed people.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the .art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire4 to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new, is
1. In a device of the character set forth, a brush provided on the opposite ends thereof with a plurality of female members, a iiexible manipulating element therefor, and means carried by the said element and engaging in the female members of the brush head for connecting the flexible element to and lengthwise of. said brush.
2. A bath brush having a pair of female 5 members connected to each of the opposite ends thereof, a flexible manipulating element extending over and lengthwise of the back, pairs of connecting elements fastened to the manipulating element and terminally provided with hooks, the hooks of the con- 10 necting element engaging in the female members.
In testimony whereof I alix my signature.
ASHIGrENARI FJIMORI.
