To all whom it mag concern:

Be it known that I, EDwAno'M.- Simone, acitizen of the United States, residing at Bradford, in the county of Orange and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to music leaf turners, and as the primary object contemplates the provision of a plurality of leaf turning frames with which are associated means actuable' preferably by the feet of a musici'an for swinging each of the music leaf turning and carrying frames in one direction and also to provide similarly actuated means for reversibly swingin the frames, thereby providing a device of this character which can beconveniently operated by musicians while playing.

It is a mores'pecific object of this invention to provide novel leaf carrying frames arran ed so' as to be conveniently operated and to provide novel c'onnecting means bet w the foot pedals and the frames for insuringeificient operation of the device.

A still further'object of my invention resides" in the provision of a device of the character described that is simple in construction, eflicient in operation and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.

@ther objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my inventio'n will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connec tion with the accompanying drawings and pointed out tlie claims forming a part of this specification.-

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I provide a support including a base 1 whic'hhas perpenuieinarly arranged thereon a: standard 2, the latter having a leaf supporting ineinber 3 angularly disposed on the upper end thereof and connected thereto by a suitable securing means generally designated i. preferred form of support with which my invention is adapted to be associated, it will be appreciated from the following description that by making modifications, the invention can as well be associated with another support of different type.

In order to efficiently turn the music leaves, I have provided improved music leaf turning frames, generally designated 5, each of these frames being formed from single pieces of rod metal and consists ofrods- 6 and 7, which are arranged in the vertical groove 8 in the member 3. The upper ends of the rods are bent outwardlyto provide arms 9 and 10 upon which are mounted suitable means preferably clips 11 for removably holding sheets of music thereon. The rods 6 and 7 are supported in position within the groove 8 by means of are-' taining element 12 which serves as a bearing, while the arm 10 is arranged above the arm 9 and removably held in this position through the means of a suitable supporting element generally designated 13. One end ofthis element is rigidly secured, preferably through the medium of suitable fastening devices 14, to the rear face of the member 8 intermediate the ends thereof. The other end of the member 13 is bent outwardly and teuninates in a loop 15 upon which rests the curved portion 16 of the arm 10. Suitable stops 17 are'provided for limiting the movement of the arms, said stops being carried by the upper edges of the members 8 adjacent the respective ends thereof as illustrated to advantage in-Fig. 1. The lower ends of the rods 6 and 7 are retained in position through the medium of asupporting flange 18. The extreme lower ends of the rods whiehproject through the flange 18' are bent outwardly to provide'short arms 19 and 20, which terminate respectively in loops 21 and 22.

For the purpose of swinging the frames 5 separately from one side of the memberB to the other side of the member 3 which consequently turns the sheets of music carried by the frames, I have pivoted a bell crank lever 23 on thestandar'd, one arm of which has connection with the loopedend 21 of the arm 19 through the medium of a link 24, while a connecting, rod 25 is pivotally connected to the other'end of the le- Although this is the ver 23, said rod being in turn pivotally con nected to a pedal 26 pivoted as at 27 to the base 1. To swing the other frame 7, a bell crank lever 27 is pivoted. above the bell crank lever 23 and is connected to the looped end 22 of the arm 20 by means of a link 28, a connecting rod 29 being pivotally con nected to the outer end of the lever 27 and in turn pivotally connected to a pedal 30 pivoted at 31 to the base and adjacent the right side of the pedal 26. By depressing the lever 26, the arm 9 of one of the frames 5 will be swung so as to engage the stop 17 on the other side of the member 3 and by subsequently depressing the pedal 30 the arm 10 of the other frame will be swung in the same direction as the arm 9. To swing the two frames in the reverse direction I provide a large bell crank lever generally designated 31. This lever is substantially U-shaped in front elevation, while the arms 32 and 32 extend at different angles from the transverse portion 33, which latter is pivoted by suitable means 34 to the standard. A link 35 is pivotally connected to the loop 21 of the arm 19 and the arm 32, while a connecting rod 36 is pivoted to the free end of the other arm. A pedal 37 is pivotally connected, as at 38, to the base adjacent the side opposite the pedals 26 and 30, the said pedal 37 having the lower end of the connecting rod pivotally associated therewith so that by depressing this pedal 37 the bell crank lever 31 is swung about its pivot and because of the link 35 connected to the arm 21 and the arrangement of the rods 6 and 7, the frames are swung in a reverse direction.

The operation of this invention is as follows: Assuming that the arms 9 and 10 of the frames are arranged in a position as shown in Fig. l and that sheets of music are removably held thereon through the medium of clips 11, when it is desired to turn the sheet of music associated with the arm 9, the lever 26 is depressed. This depression causes the bell crank lever to move about its pivot and incidentally causes the link 21 to draw the arm 19 of the frame, of which the arm 9 also forms a part, downwardly at the same time swinging the arm 9 to the other side of the member 3. To swing the other frame which includes the leaf-turning arm 10 and the short arm 20, the lever 30 is depressed so as to move the bell crank lever 27 about its pivot and at the same time draw the arm 20 downwardly and swing the arm 10 in the same direction as the arm 9. In effect these operating l vers form means for independently swinging each of the arms in one direction. Now in order to swing either one or both of the frames in a reverse direction so that they may assume their original position or positions, the lever 37 is depressed so as to move the bell crank lever 31 about its pivot and because of the connection of the link 35 with the looped end 21 of the arms 19, of which the frame 6 forms a part, the arm 9 will be swung in a reverse direction. It will be appreciated also that the other arm 10 will also be swung intoits original position if it happens to be arranged thereabove.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it can easily be seen that I have provided a device that is simple in construction, containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.

It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A music leaf turner including in combination with a base, a standard thereon and a leaf supporting member on the upper end of the standard, a pair of leaf turning frames movably mounted on the supporting member, means for attaching sheets of music to the frames, a plurality of hell crank levers pivotally mounted on the standard, links connected between the lower ends of the frames and the bell crank levers, rods depending from the free ends of the bell crank levers, and a plurality of pedals pivotally mounted on the base, one of which is connected to each frame whereby when either of said pedals is depressed the corresponding frame will be swung about its pivot.

A music leaf turner including in combination with a base, a standard thereon, a leaf supporting member on the upper end of the standard, a pair of leaf turning frames formed from single pieces of metal including rods journaled in the supporting member, arms extending from the upper ends of the rods, means for attaching sheets of music to each arm, means for supporting one of the arms adjacent the other, short arms extending from the lower ends of the rods, a plurality of bell crank levers pivotally mounted on the standard, links interposed between the bell crank levers and the free ends of the short arms, foot operable means pivotally mounted on the base and in connection with the bell crank levers which are connected to the frames whereby when depressed the frames Will be swung about their pivot in one direction, one of the levers being of a distorted U-shape having one of its limbs longer than the other and rotated slightly about the transverse portion with respect to the other limb, another link interposed between one arm of the U-shaped lever and the short arm on one of the frames, and foot operable means on the base and in conneetion with the opposite arm of the U- shaped lever, so that when said means is depressed the frames will be swung in an opposite direction.
