To all whom t may concern:

Beit known that'LPA'rnrck J. CoNNoLLY, a lcitizen of the United States, and resident of Jersey City, county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Marking-Tickets, of which ythe following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like arts. P This invention relates to improvements in marking clips andthe object thereof is 'to provide a marking ticket or tag which may be applied easily to an article of merchandise and which will not mutilate the vmaterial to which it is attached.

The usual devices used to mark textile articles of merchandise are known as pin tickets and comprise a card to receive the notations of cost, sale price, style, etc. ylhese cards are provided with pins or staples adapted vto be thrust through the materialv towhich they are to be attached. y

T he present invention contemplates the provision of means for securing the card to the material without the necessity of having the aflixing device penetrate the material and comprises a card which may be of the usual type having a recess with means for forcing a bight of material to be'marked into said recess and clamping the same therein.

rlhe preferred embodiment of the invention which is illustrated in the drawings comprises a ticket 1 of stiff material such as cardboard the face of which may be provided with notations like those ordinarily used upon pin tickets. A recess or slot 2 is formed in the card preferably parallel with and near one end, into which a bight of material to be marked may be forced. This recess may be a depression from the reverse side of the card toward the face thereof but Patented Mar. 19, 1918.

lThe ai'iixing device for clamping the bight of material into-the slot is in the form of a stiff, pliable, non-resilient member preferably extending beyond the end of the card a ,sufl'icient distance to embrace a considerable portion of the material to which the card is to be affixed, the end of the aliixing member being provided Vwith a projection which may be utilized to force a bightJ of the material into the recess of the card and in coperation with the lwalls of the recess clamp the same therein.

The afifixing member may be an extension of the body of the 'card with or without a reinforcing ymember but preferably is in the form of a metallic clip attached to thecard adjacent its end and bent to form a loop,- yone limb of which extends beyond the end of the card and the other limb of which VVextends substantially parallel tothe reverse face of the card and is provided at its extremity with an oset portion so positioned that when the limbs of .the clip are squeezed togetler the vend will enter therecess in the cart.

As illustrated in the accompanying dra-wto form a locking member 10, and the extremity 11 of the locking member 10 preferably is doubled tightly upon itself so that the locking member presents a smooth curved surface 12 to engage the material to which the marking clip is applied.

ln using the device the reverse face of the card is placed against the material and a single or doubled fold of the material thrust beneath the limb 9 of the aihxing device. The limbs of the clip are then pressed together until the offset end 12 of the limb 9 enters the recess 2 in the card, carrying with it the bight of the material 13. The allixing device of course is of pliant non-resilient material which when once bent into place will remain there, so that the bight of material will be clampedwithin the Y drawn from the recess whereupon theV bight of material can be readily withdrawn from said recess.

By this construction the card may be affixed tothe most delicate fabrics without injuring the same as the end of the aixing device does not penetrate the fabric and has no sharp points or ragged edges which will damage the fibers of the material.

It is to be understood that the embodiment Y of Ythe invention disclosed herein is illustrative in character but is not restrictive and that the same may be embodied in other forms within the meaning and scope of the following claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is;

1. A marking ticket comprising a card having a recess and a sti' pliable member secured thereto having. a free end adapted to t force a bght of the material to be marked into said recess and to clampl the same therein. v
