TANK FOR FLUSI-IERS AND SPRINKLERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 5, 1918.
Application filed March 27, 1917. Serial No. 157,702.
1'29 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l. lViLLIA it K. Simmer, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of: Tiilin, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Tank for Flushcrs and Sprinklers, of which the following is a full. clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to auto-flushers and sprinklers, such as shown and described in the application for Letters Patent of the United States, Serial No. 157701 filed by me March 27, 1917.
The object of the present invention is to provide :1 new and improved tank arranged to supply the flusher and sprinkler with water for flushing and sprinkling purposes and at the same time provide a separate compartment for containing the circulating water used for cooling the internal combustion engine of the sprinkler. Another object of the invention is to fill the separate compartment for the circulating water from the main compartment of the tank and to reduce the temperature of the circulating water at the time the water in the main compartment overflows into the circulating water compartment.
In order to accomplish the desired result use is made of a tank having a partition dividing the tank into a main compartment and a circulating water compartment. the main compartment having means for filling and emptying it, and the said circulating compartment having an inlet and an outlet adapted to connect with the water ackets of the engines of the internal combustion engine of the auto-flushcr or sprinkler, said partition having an opening establishing communication between the upper portions of the said compartments to fill the circulating water compartment with water from the main compartment and to reduce the temperature of the water in the said circulating water compartment at the time the water in the main compartment overflows into the circulating water compartment.
.i-l. practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference inclicate corrcspondin g parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section or the tank for an auto-flasher and sprinkler;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The tank 10 is preferably built of sheet metal and mounted on the truck of an autofiusher and sprinkler, as more fully shown and described in the application above referred to. The tank 10 is provided near one end with a transversely extending partition 11 dividing the interior of the tank into a main compartment 12 and a water circulating compartment 13. The main compartment 12 is provided at the top with a cover 14 having a manhole 15 and an elbow 16 for connection with a hose to be connected with a hydrant or other source of water supply for filling the compartment 12 with water. The bottom of the compartment 12 is provided with an outlet 17 connected with the various flushing and sprinkling nozzles or the like. The main compartment 12 is also provided at or near its middle with a transverse plate 18 having a central opening 19 and corner openings 20 to allow free passage oi. the water in the main compartment 12 but to prevent too rapid flow of water in the compartment endwise thereof.
The partition 11 is provided near its upper end with an opening connecting the upper portion of the compartment 12 with the upper portion of the compartment 13 so that on filling the compartment 12 with water the latter can overflow through the opening 25 into the compartment 13 to fill the same up to the bottom of the opening 25. It will be noticed that when the compartment 12 is emptied of water for flushing and sprinkling or for other purposes the water in the compartment 13 is not affected. The compartment 13 is provided near its lower end with an outlet 30, and an inlet 31 connects with the compartment 13 at a point between the opening 25 and the outlet 30, as plainly shown in Fig. 1. The outlet and the inlet 31 connect in the usual manner with the water jackets of the engine cylinders of the internal combustion engine used on the flushcr and sprinkler, it being understood that the water is circulated by flowing out through the outlet 30 and returning by the inlet 31.
It will be noticed that by the arrange ment described the water circulating compartment 13 remains charged with water the compartment 13 tends to cool the water contained therein especially as the hot water in the compartment 13 rises and flows through the opening 25 into the compartment 12 to commingle with the cold water therein.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Let tors Patent 1. A tank for use on auto-flushers and sprinklers having a vertical, transverse partition dividing the tank into a main compartment and a circulating water compartment, the main compartment having means for filling and emptying the said main compartment and the said circulating compartment having an inlet and an outlet adapted to connect with the Water ackets of the engines of the internal combustion engine of the fiusher or sprinkler, the said partition having an opening establishing communication. between the upper portions of the said compartments to fill the circulating water compartment with water from the main compartment, and to reduce the temperature of the water in the said circulating water compartment at the time the water in the main compartment overflows into the circulating water compartment.
2. A tank for use on auto-flushers and sprinklers, comprising a main water compartment having means for filling and emptying it, a circulating water compartment having an inlet and an outlet connected with the water jackets of the engines of the internal combustion engine of the flusher and sprinkler, and a filling and return overflow connection between the upper portions of the said main water compartment and the said circulating water compartment, whereby the circulating water compartment is filled with water from the main water compartment up to and beyond the said connection and whereby the hot water in the said circulating water compartment can overflow by way of the said connection into the main water compartment at the time both compartments are filled with Water above the bottom of the said connection.
