Description

H.`cf. ALLYN.
Improvement in Belt' Tightener.,
No. 125 780, A PatentedApr'lnn.
UNITED STATES PATENT (DET-TCE HOMER C. ALLYN, OF FALLS VILLAGE, CONNECTICUT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,780, dated April 16, 1872.
Specification describing a Belt-Tightener, invented by HOMER C. ALLYN, of Falls Village, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut.
The invention will first be described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof and then clearly pointed ont in the claim.
The gure is an elevation.
A represents an upright frame having horizontal bars a a, between which two vertical rods, B B, are fastened in any suitable man! ner. C is a bearing-block, having perfrations c c, through which pass rods B B, aperture c1 to form the bearing of a revolving pin or shaft, and an internally-threaded aperturez, in which Works a hand-screw, D. The shaft which carries the balance-wheel and pulley of any machine to which it is applicable is journaled in the aperture c1, which forms its only bearin g. As the bearing-block C is raised the belt isv tightened so as to drive the pulley, and when moved in the opposite direction the machine is thrown out of gear.
This device is intended for, and is especially adapted to,small machines, such as the sewin g-machine, and is found by practical experiment to be very convenient and useful.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bearing-block C of a balance-Wheel and pulley-shaft, arranged on a frame, in combination with rods B B and screw D, as and for the purpose described.
To the above specification of my invention I have signed my hand this 14th day of March,
HOMER C. ALLYN. Witnesses:
SoLoN C. KEMoN, CHAs. A. PETTIT.
