MOTION-TRANSMITTING MEANS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1918.
Application led March 29, 1917. Serial No. 158,439.
To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR S. LANICH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baraboo, in the county of Saul; and State of iVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Motion- Transmitting Means, of which the following is a specitication.
My present invention pertains to motiontransmitting mechanism; and its object is the provision of peculiar and highly advantageous motion-transmitting means, designed more particularly, though not necessarily, for embodiment in a door opening or controlling apparatus.
@ther objects and advantageous features Vof the invention will be fully understood be wound upon and suitably connected to the windlass or drum.
The disk 12 is preferably of metal, and opposed to the beveled portion of the same are reversely arranged pulleys 16 which are preferably of paper or other suitable friction-creating` material. Said pulleys 16 are keyed or otherwise fixed to a shaft 5 which is journaled in a sleeve bearing 13, mounted on the spindle 10, and provided with a flanged opening 14. At 1T the shaft 5 is provided with a band pulley for its connection with a motor (not shown).
Loosely mounted and held against endwise movement on the shaft 5 is a collar 18, and connected to said collar is a reversing or control lever 19- that is fulcrumed at 20.
A rod 21 is connected with the lever 19 so that the latter may be manipulated when desired by a person positioned at a distance from the motion-transmitting mechanism. Through the medium of said rod 21 and lever 19 either of the pulleys 16 may be engaged with the disk 12 of the windlass or drum 8, according to the direction in which it is desired to rotate the latter from the shaft 5 which may be rotated by any suitable means.
lV hen the lever 19 is relieved of push or pull, the pulleys 16 rest in neutral positions and hence there is no tendency to rotate the windlass or drum 8.
Having described my invention, what I, claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
Motion transmission means comprising a spindle having a base plate, a drum rotatable on the spindle and having a disk beveled at its side remote from the base plate, a sleeve bearing iXedly mounted on the spindle at the opposite side of the drum, with reference to the base plate, and having a flanged opening at an intermediate point of its length, a shaft rotatable and movable endwise in the sleeve bearing, reversely arranged beveled pulleys fixed on said shaft and adapted to be alternately engaged with the disk, a col lar disposed in the flanged opening of the tubular bearing and loosely mounted and held against endwise movement on the shaft, and a lever connected with said collar and fulcrumed in the iiange of the opening at an intermediate point in the length of the tu bular bearing.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR S. LANICH.
Witnesses:
