Be it known that I, *WILLIAM MATHEW L mo, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the town of Havelock, county of Peterborough, Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Valve-Gears, ofwhich the following is a specification. g V v y The-invention relates to improvements in .valve gears as described in the present specification and shown. in the accompanying drawings that form part ofthe same. y
The invention consists essentially in the novel construction and arrangement of parts whereby a plurality of levers are so assembled as to vary the lead according to the load. a i g The-objects of the invention are particularly" to devise an eiiicient valve gear; for locomotives so that the said locomotives may be operated successfully under the carrying conditions in which they are used and generally to provide a valve gear free from complications and of a durable nature.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view showing the relation of the levers and rods of the gear to thevalve, the latter being shown in longitudinal relation with the steam chest and cylinder.

The valve 7 is provided with a stem 8 projecting outwardly through the rear end .ofthe chest 6 and having flexibly connected bell crank 11 being pivotally secured at its center toa suitable bracket from the frame of the locomotiveandbeing pivotally connected at its upper end to an operating rod 12 from the cab of the locomotive.
It will at once be apparent that in operation the rod 12 accordingly as it is moved in a rearward or forward direction will raise or lower the rod 9,- the purpose for which will be explained hereinafter.
