An incandescent lamp being in position, the operation of my invention is as follows:

arm 21. The circuit will thus be broken. On releasing the chain, the do 13, which will have been drawn 4to the rig t (Fig. 3) so as to have a switch arm extending across the slide way behind it, will be pushed back by the spring 33; when the pawl 25 comes in contact with the switch 'arm the pawl will be depressed against the resistance of the springs 27, so that the dog may pass the arm and rest in its original position (at the left, Fig. 3).
lt will be noted'that the socket of m invention is very simple and'little liab e to get. out of order. It should also be noted that the pull and movement of the chain 4and switch dog is straight across the center ofthe socket so that the chain is not liable to bend or kink. It should be noted, further, that each point of the circuit is separated by substantial amounts of insulationV from all other parts of the circuit which differ substantially from it in E. M. F.
lVhile I have described my invention in one of its possible embodiments it is obvious that other forms of the invention may easily be designed by those skilled in the art within the spirit of the following claim In a pull socket, an insulating body having a chamber and a transverse slidewayv opening from the bottom of said chamber, an insulating cover for said chamber, a spindie set in the bottom of said'chamberto one side of the slideway, al cruciform switch 'in said chamber loosely A mounted upon said spindle and adapted to have one arm cross the opening'of said slideway, a spring upon said spindle above the switch and havinfg its 'upper end against the lower surface o the cover, a switch dog slidable in the slideway and provided with a chain,v a depressible' pawl upon the top of saidswitch dogv anda circuit terminal adapted to -make contact with alternate switch arms,the switch being connected with the other circuit terminal.
