To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PLA'roN LA ZAnroEs, residing at New York, in;the county and State of New York, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders, of which thefollowing'is a specificar tion'. i a
This invention relates to tool-holders, and
more particularly to a combination toolholder, such that the tool may be set .in different positions without disturbing the mounting or adjustment of the. holder proper, and whereby various kinds oftools maybe held in position to operateupon' the work. I
The prime object, of the present invention is to simplify the construction of tool-holders of this character as hitherto constructed, and to providean instrument which may be quickly andeasily adjusted to various positiOIlS. I .t I
A further object of the invention is to provide a new and improved instrument of the type which,-while possessing all. of the advantages of a single tool, may be utilized for the various purposes above indicated, and whereby one usingthe instrument may use the same to hold a tool to work either as a left, center or right tool ina lathe. Referring now to the drawings, wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts through the several views, the reference numeral 1 denotes the shank ofthe tool-holder, consisting of a straight rectangularly fo'rmedba'r, which is adapted to be mounted and clamped in the tool supporting device of a lathe in the manner in which an ordinary tool is usually supported. This shank portion at its outer end is provided with an enlarged portion or head 2, having a socket 3, the inner wall f thereof being formed from the arc ofa circle, and being inclined, ascle'arly shown in Figs. 2 and-3 of the drawings. The reference numeral '5 indicates a turret member, said turret member being of frusto-con cal shape, andl'is adapted to fit nicely within the socket 8, the upper wall 60f the member 5 engaging with the under surface of the arm? of the head 2, and the lateral wall of saidturret member engaging with the wall 4 of said head 2, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and2 of the drawings. 1
Turret member 5 is provided with a centrally disposed threaded-aperture 8, which is located directly beneath an aperture 9 provided in the arm 7 of the head- 2, and extending through the aperture 9 and engaging the threads of the aperture 8is a clamp bolt 10, having a shoulder ll'adapted to rest upon the outer surface of the arm 7. By means of this" construction: it will be seen that when the turret member 5 is positioned in the head 2, the same may be firmly clamped against rotative, or in fact any movement therein, by means of this clamp bolt 10.
