TRAIN-ORDER-DELIVEBING DEVICE.
Specification ofiLettersPatent. Patented Jan, 1, 1918.
Application filed August 20, 1915. SerialNo. 46,550.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, Go'rFRED A. KLnFsAAs,
a citizen of the. United States, residing at Sanborn, in the county of Barnes, Stateof North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Train-Order- Delivering Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to train-order delivering devices.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character named embodying an improved construction for delivering to the desired members of the crew of a passing train an order governing the running thereof, such order through the instrumentality of the device being delivered in duplicate or triplicate as the case may be with certainty and without danger to those removing the order from the device.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote, corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Figure l is a view in elevation of the invention;
Fig. 2, a plan view thereof;
Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4, an enlarged longitudinal section through one of the hoop carrying arms; and
Fig. 5, a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings 10 indicates a standard or support having a reduced upper end 11 upon which is rotatably mounted a pulley 12. This pulley includes an extended hub portion 13 to which is secured a plurality of arms 14, four such arms being shown. Each of the arms 14 is provided with a longitudinal recess 15 opening through the outer end thereof. Slidably engaged in said recess 15 is a. rod 16 which carries on its outer end a U-shaped spring clip 17. Pivotally supported by each arm 14 adjacent its inner end for movement in a plane parallel to the arm is a socket member 18. Secured to the standard 10 is a bracket 19 which is. shaped to embrace the pulley l2 and terminates at its outer end in an upstanding-stop 20 for cooperation with;
the-socket members 18 in a manner that will hereinafter appear. Also secured to the standard 10 at a point opposite the connection of the standard with the bracket 19 is a bracket 21 which carries a plurality of guide pulleys 22, 23 and 24. Trained over the pulleys 22, 23 and 24 is a cable 25 which is engaged around and has one end secured to the pulley 12. The other end of the cable 25 has secured thereto a weight 26 which operates through the cable to rotate the pulley 12. Each of the arms 14 is adapted to detachably support an order hoop 27 including a stem 28, the latter being engaged within the clip 17 and the socket member 18. Each hoop 27 is provided with a clip 29 for holding the desired train-order. Suitably secured to the upper end of the reduced portion 11 of the standard 10 is an arm 30 which carries at its free end a signal lantern 31, the arm 30 being so disposed that the lantern 31 will lie directly above the next hoop to be removed from the device and thus illuminate the hoop in order that the desired member of the train crew may readily grip same.
When the stems 28 are inserted in respective clips 17 and socket members 18 the latter will of course be secured against rotation and one of said socket members will abut the stop 20 so as to prevent rotation of the pulley 12 under the influence of the weight 26. As soon as the hoop 27 is re moved the related socket member 18 is free to rotate and thus become disengaged from the stop 20 when the weight 26 will rotate the pulley 12 to bring the next socket member 18 into engagement with the stop 20. This operation is repeated until the desired members of the crew have been supplied with the order. It will of course be understood that the first hoop is removed by the engineer, and so on until the train has passed. By providing four arms 14 it is possible to supply the desired order to the requisite members of the crew of a train having two engines.
What is claimed is A train-order delivering device comprising a support, a member rotatably mounted on the support, radial arms. carried by the member, a stop immovable with respect to the member, a socket-member carried by Qopies of this patent may be obtained for disengaged therefrom, and means for rotating the rotatable member to bring the socketmembers successively into engagement With the stop. 7
In testimony whereof I afi ix my signature 15 in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
