To @il 'ze/wm may conce/m:
Be it known that ALEXANDER S. SPIEGEL, a citizen o the nited States, and resident of Chieage, illinois, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Shingles, of which the following is 'a specification.
present invention is an improvement in a shingle of the self-spacing type, the article being, however, novel in itself and dierent from anything heretofore known in that it gives a self-spacing eect on hgth sides. l ln the accompanying drawing, Y The figure is a face view of my improved shingle.
My invention constitutes a self spacing shingle having each of its side walls notched and with the notches arrange centraly, the parts of the shingle being of different widths huthaving their edges extending in parallel iines except where the notch connects the two and by reason of the fact 'that the netch is central the shingles may he cut Without waste from a blank, as the intermediate sections will be in reverse positions where they are cut from a single strlp or' the exact length of the complete shingle. rThe shingle may be cut out of a strip or out of a sheet as may be desired.
What claim is:
A self spacing shingle having each of its side walls notche to form a space, the notches being centrally arranged of the shingle whereby a series of shingles may loe cut from a sheet of material in reverse position so as to prevent all waste, the shingle having a narrow and a wide part with 'the edges extending in parallel lines, substantially as described.
n testimony whereof, ax my signature.
