State of New York, have invented certain new andA useful Improvements 1n Ignition Devices for `Internal-Combustion Engines,
of which the following'is a complete specication.
My invention relates to ignition apparatus.'
for internal combustion engines, and conslsts in devising a casing composed ofhtwol separable` sections, wherein all component parts of the ignition deviceyincludingthe' electrical conduits connectingthe partsfare .Safely inclosed, and in. so arranging .the
component parts of the ignition'devicein the two sections of the said casing, thattheyare made readilyaccessible by merely taking apart the sections of the casing, lwhich may be done without disconnectinganygofther electrical conduits. One part, or'sectiomof the casing constitutes the base, the other part is fitted thereon to cover the open top of the base. The two parts, or sections, of the casingcomplement each other,and when joined form a compact unitary structure.'
The parts of the ignition device are.arranged in two groups, each group being housed in one of the two sections ofthe casing, and forming a unit complementary to theu group of the parts housed in the other section. The two sections of the casing are locked together by only one spring latch, and the arrangement aHords an easy access, to all parts of the ignition device by merely shifting the spring latch and then removing the cover part from-the base of the casing. Thus all parts of the ignition device may be readily examined, andv any defective part repaired or replaced without disturbing or disconnecting any of vthe other arts. pkMy invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- K Figure 1 is a sectional view of my improved ignition device on line 1-1, indicated in Fig. 2;

In the end of the cover part 13 ofthe casing, adjoining the distributer disk 17 when the cover part of the casing is set in its place, the brushes 18 and 19'are set. T he 'brushes 1.8. connect with the conduits 21 to the'spark-plugs of the cylinders of the engine; the `brush 19 connects the distributer disk 17 with the secondary Winding of the induction coil 22, set, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, in the cover part 13 of the casing, but separated and insulated from the distributer part thereof. 'lhe primary winding of this coil 22 connectsl through the conduits 11 and l2 with-the stationary and movable contacts of thecircuit breaker and, through the conduits 26 and 27, with the battery The ballast coil 24 is interposed in this connection to automatically regulate the volume of electric current passing therethrough. The ballast coil 24 is supported on studs 28 and 29 on the underside of the cover part 13 outer end oi the cavity of the cover part i3 ot the casing, and is separated from the induction coil 22 by the insulating partition 32,
lWhen the cover part 13 ot the casing is set in its place upon the base e, its forward end engages with the rim 36 ot' the vertical extension 5 and the flange 39, extending along its sides and rear end, engages the rim all of theopening ot' the lbase el. rlhus the casing completely incloses all parts of the ignition device and protects it from injury by Water, oil, dust, etc. The vtwo secions of the casing are secured in this posiion by the spring latch 33, turnably mount- 'd on the stud 35 set in the base ot the asing, and engaging with its correspond- -gly indented free end, as shown at 38, the ointcd projection 3? on the cover part 'i3 of the casing. rEhe spring latch 33 is set to press the cover part 13 against the vertical extension 5 of the base d, and its engagement With the pointed projection 3l' holds the flangev 39 rmly upon the rim il oi the base section of the casing, thus preventing `accidental displacement ot the cover part 13 by shock or vibration.

An ignition device for internal comloustion4- engines, comprising an induction coil, a condenser, a circuit breaker, a distributer, and the electrical conduits connecting the parts, arranged in a casing made oic tivo parts, one part forming an open base and the-other a cover therefor, each part of ,the casing containing some of the component parts of the ignition device, and the interpart electrical conduits 'being completely inclosed in the casing by setting up the cover part upon the base, and means for securingfthe cover part of the casing to the base; substantially as herein shown and de scribed.
2. An ignition device for internal coinbustion engines, comprising an induction coil, a condenser, a circuit breaker, a distributer, and the electrical conduits connecting the parts, all arranged in a casing,
made up oi two sections litted together toI form a unitary structure, the electrical conduits connecting the component parts of the ignition device being arranged to enable the sections to be 'taken apart Without disconnecting the electrical conduits, and means for securing togetherthe sections, substantially as herein shown and described.

gear, meshing with the gear mounted on the driving shaft, and a distributer disk liked thereto, mounted on the stud, arranged in one section; an induction coil, a condenser, brushes and electrical connections from the induction coil to the distributor, and from the distributor to the spark plugs of the engine, and to and 4from the source of electric current; a ballast coil and conduits connecting it with the induction coil, arranged in the other section of the casing; electrical conduits connecting the induction coil and the circuit breaker, and means for securing the sections together; substantially as herein shown and described.

A casing for an ignition device for, internal combustion engines, comprising two sections, a base and a complementary part, litted upon the base, each section of the casing. being adapted to contain parts of the ignition device, and both together all parts of a complete ignition device, and their elec* `trical connections, the two sections of the casing being adapted to completely inclose the parts ,and their' electrical connections, when joined together, the parts of the ignition device being open to inspection when the sections of the casing are separated; and means for securing thesections of the casing together; substantially as herein shown and described.V
