Be it known that I, PATRICK J. LYoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phialdelphia, countyof Philadelphia, and j State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new .and useful Improvement in Railway-Track Constructions, of which the following is a .full, clear, and exact description, reference `.being hadto the accompanying drawings,
which form a part of this specification. a My invention` relatesto arailway track construction foruse incrossings, switches, frogs, mates, etc., etc., oneither steam or street railway lines, of such a character as to permit of the ready removal and` replacey ment of the parts receiving the greatest wear without interfering with or damaging other parts. r In ya crossing, for example, the point where thewheel-.angeways meet is subject to greater `wear than any other part ofthe Utrack, due to the jumping of the wheel over the'intersecting flangeway. `It .is customary to place a removable plateor center in the track at this point, in order to Vperhmitof renewal of the worn` portionwithout the necessity of renewing the entire i. crossing. a The devices for this purpose now in luse are found to have many defects,
principally that they arevery difficult to `remove and that theirremoval frequently results in irreparable damage to the entire crossing. Referring again to Figs. le, in practice the manipulation of my device is as follows:

3. `A track .construction comprising aJ an inset inserted in a recess in the ca'sting there being a` .horizontal keyway partly integrar with the feasting and; partly 13o integral with the inset, part of the keyway between its ends being integral with the inset, a slotted key inserted in said keyway, said casting being cut away from its upper face to said keyway, said out away portion extending from in front of the rear of the slot to a point hack of the solid part of the key at the rear of the slot, and a holding pin extending downward through said cut away part of the casting and engaging the solid part of the key back of the rear o' the slot.
4. A track construction comprising a casting having a recess, a keyway extending upward from the bottom of said recess, an inset inserted in said recess, said inset having an opening for the reception of said keyway and having a keyway alining therewith, and a key extending through both keyways.
5. A track construction, comprising a base, cut out for the reception of an inset, having a vertical slot in its periphery and a keyway extending from said slot into said cut out portion, eyes extending upwardly from the bottom of said cut out portion, an inset having a horizontal opening and openings for the reception of said eyes, adapted to set in the base, and a slotted pin adapted to pass through said keyway into said inset and through said eyes.
